About Dioxycle
Dioxycle is pioneering breakthrough carbon utilization technologies that convert industrial emissions into sustainable chemicals with unprecedented energy and cost efficiency. By displacing fossil fuels for the production of key chemicals, Dioxycle has the potential to ultimately reduce over 800 million tons of CO2 per year, representing over 2% of the world's emissions.

At the core of our process is a novel "carbon electrolyzer", a machine capable of using just electricity and water to convert carbon emissions back into valuable everyday essential chemicals. Our team is innovating across chemical, mechanical and system engineering to turn carbon transformation into an economically feasible, industrial reality through this completely novel technological approach. Having completed our industrial-scale electrolyzer prototype, we are now working with our chemical and downstream offtakers towards First-of-a-kind plant deployment and subsequent commercial roll-out.

We are supported by world-class funders including Bill-Gates-founded Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Lowercarbon Capital and Gigascale Capital and have raised $40M to date. We operate from two centers in Paris and California (so whether you are passionate about outdoors or good food/art scenes, we have a location for you to join!)

Your Mission
Dioxycle is seeking a Product Development Engineer to join our design team. You'll be working on end-to-end development of our electrolyzer stacks, at the intersection of mechanical design, breakthrough electrochemistry, and manufacturing - taking concepts from CAD to physical reality, and iterating fast.

This is a role for someone who thinks rigorously, builds pragmatically, and isn't afraid to get into the details of a component tolerance or a supplier negotiation. You'll have real ownership over a core piece of our technology. The problems are hard, the impact is direct, and the work is never boring.

Your key responsibilities will center around:
- Design new electrolyzer stacks using CAD software, from early concept to detailed drawings
- Dimension and validate components (manifolds, bipolar plates, sealing systems, compression systems) using theoretical calculations and computational simulations
- Own innovative product design initiatives in close collaboration with the stack team, chemistry team and scale-up team
- Lead manufacturing planning, procurement, and supplier relationships for your stack product

Abilities and expertise we are looking for

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical parts and computer-aided design (CAD) is a requirement
  • Solid experience in Product Lifecycle Management for design documentation and revisioning
  • Manufacturing experience is strongly appreciated
  • Solid theoretical knowledge in fluid mechanics, thermal management, solid mechanics (compression, material resistance) is a nice to have
  • Good knowledge of suppliers for prototype components manufacturing
  • Experience in electrolyzer or fuel cell stack design such as from hydrogen electrolysis or chlor-alkali electrolysis is a nice to have but not a requirement
  • English is our daily work language.

Mindset we are looking for

  • Exemplary work ethic and self-driven attitude: you get things done fast and to a high standard and you don't drop the ball
  • "Street-smart": you don't take no for an answer and will figure out a way to solve anything with the means available
  • Commitment to the mission and ambition and to creating a kind, high-performance and fun atmosphere at work (100% on-site role)
  • Passion for innovation and problem-solving attitude
  • Dedication to investing time and effort for the betterment of the team
  • Going the extra 20% that makes a good deliverable into an outstanding deliverable
  • Humble, low-ego and curious

What we have to offer

  • Unique journey: We are an early-stage company with a world-class team and a flat structure.
  • Impact: We are building a product that will reshape century-old industrial processes to build a better, more sustainable and resilient world
  • People-first: We love our people. We are excited to see one another every morning when coming to work. We choose people and they choose us to share a similar excitement.
  • Feedback over ego: We are self-improving whilst helping others grow. We are no-ego doers and we are all responsible for shaping the company.
  • International team: We are an international team made up of over 17 nationalities, and hopefully many more soon!
  • Fun: We constantly strive to cultivate a great work atmosphere and organize regular team events.
  • Competitive compensation packages
  • Generous Employee Stock Ownership plans
  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Ergonomic work stations & state-of-the-art equipment

Our process

  • An initial video call with Grace, Director of People, to discuss Dioxycle's mission, get to know you, understand your career expectations, and answer your questions (30 mins)
  • Expert screening call with Jan, Lead Stack Design Engineer (30 mins)
  • Technical deepdive interview/case study with Jan, Lead Stack Design Engineer and Luc, Chief Stack Architect (1 hour)
  • Cofounder interview (45 mins)
  • Onsite interview including opportunity to tour our technology & meet the wider team (2-3 hours)
  • A series of reference calls with provided contacts

Skills Required

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical parts and computer-aided design (CAD)
  • Solid experience in Product Lifecycle Management for design documentation and revisioning
  • Manufacturing experience
  • Solid theoretical knowledge in fluid mechanics, thermal management, solid mechanics (compression, material resistance)
  • Good knowledge of suppliers for prototype components manufacturing
  • Experience in electrolyzer or fuel cell stack design (hydrogen electrolysis or chlor-alkali electrolysis)
  • English as daily work language
