As a Product Development Engineer, you will design and develop medical device components, assemblies, and fixtures within the framework of a cross functional team. You will learn about clinical needs and relevant surgical procedures to interpret users' needs to create relevant design requirements and specifications.

    • You will need to have experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA, and other relevant software tools.
    • You will need to have the ability to be creative. An inventive mindset is essential for you to design new products and services or improve upon those that have already been created. As a Product Development Engineer you will need to constantly innovate to continue to drive successes
    • You will be responsible for identifying and resolving issues that arise. This will include taking action to solve the problem by generating ideas for the solution, finding out the reasons behind the problem, and implementing the solution.

Within your first six months, you will be responsible for learning about our company, contributing to various projects and leading project management initiatives.

Within your first 30 days:

  • Learn about Applied's mission and vision and take part in a variety of Applied Learning foundational courses.
  • Discuss your goals and expectations with your team leader(s) and read and review all relevant team resources and materials.
  • Immerse yourself in team meetings and discussions.

Within 60 days:

  • Exhibit a strong technical understanding of the product line(s) and/or projects
  • Support team meetings and agendas.
  • Take on one or more projects that require low to moderate guidance.

Within 90 days to one year:

  • Develop interpersonal connections and relationships with others to effectively accomplish project objectives and deliverables.
  • Lead moderate to complex projects with minimal guidance or direction.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Applied's Quality Management System and effectively troubleshoot challenges or obstacles that may affect project timelines.
  • Handle a variety of projects on your own.

This team member will work on Product Development team with direct responsibility for concept development, product design, prototyping, feasibility testing and wet labs, design for manufacturing, initial process development, qualification, and compliance. The team consists of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineers and Technicians who work collaboratively with other groups including Electrical and Software Engineering, Process Engineering, Manufacturing, Clinical, Quality, Regulatory, Branding, and Finance to support products through all phases of the product development lifecycle.

  • Two to five years of relevant engineering work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience with CAD modeling and drafting (i.e. SolidWorks).
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with working hands-on to create prototypes.
  • Excellent organization, communication and technical writing skills.
  • Understand, analyze and troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Work effectively in cross-functional teams.

  • Experience in the medical device industry.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures and clinical needs.
  • Understanding of manufacturing and quality standards, including Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) quality systems.
  • Exposure to Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Test Method Validation.
  • Experience with software such as NetWeaver/Product Lifecycle Management.
  • Experience with Minitab or other statistical analysis software.
  • Experience with leading teams or projects.
