About Yupp

We are a well-funded, rapidly growing, early-stage AI startup headquartered in Silicon Valley that is building a two-sided product -- one side meant for global consumers and the other side for AI builders and researchers. We work on the cutting edge of AI across the stack. Check out our product that was launched recently, and how it solves the foundational challenge of robust and trustworthy AI model evaluations. Here's more information about us.

Why Join Yupp?

Are you ready to have the ride of a lifetime together with some of the smartest and most seasoned colleagues? You’ll work on challenging, large-scale problems at the cutting edge of AI to build novel products that touch millions of users globally, in a massive and growing market opportunity.

Yupp’s founding team is highly experienced and comes from companies like Twitter, Google, Coinbase, Microsoft and Paypal. This team is one of the smartest, most fun, cracked top talent you will ever work with. Our work culture provides a high degree of autonomy, ownership and impact. It’s intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future of AI alongside others who are at the top of their game and expect the same from you, there’s no better AI startup to be.

At Yupp, you will experience both the excitement of building for a large scale global user base as well as for the deeply technical audience of AI model builders and researchers. You’ll get immersed in and learn all about the latest and greatest AI models and agents. You’ll interact with AI builders and researchers from other AI labs all around the world.

We are a mostly in-person startup, but we are also flexible – you can usually work from home when you need to and come in and leave when you want to. Many employees work from home on average 1 day a week.

Design Culture

You’ll be joining a small team of designers helping build out the foundation for what’s to come at Yupp. We recently launched, but still have a lot of work to do on the fundamentals of our brand, design system, and product. If that unlimited possibility excites you, you’ll be a great fit. And with a collaborative culture, you’ll have the ownership and autonomy to help drive what design looks like here. We’re building the plane as we fly it, but at the same time, with most of our team coming from larger companies, we pair a fast-moving startup mindset with the process rigor and quality bar of a larger org.

Job Summary

We’re looking for a highly skilled and motivated product designer with an outstanding portfolio of prior work.

The ideal candidate will be T-shaped—an entrepreneurial, generalist, “full-stack” designer adept at solving problems in a fast-moving startup culture (breadth), along with one or two areas of deeper focus (depth). For this role, we’re looking for designers with interaction and research expertise.

This role requires strong creativity, attention to detail, problem-solving, and the ability to work highly collaboratively in a fast-paced, globally-distributed startup environment. Ideally, you have experience working in the fast-moving ambiguity of early-stage startups and with the process rigor of big tech, and the judgement to know when to use which tool.

Responsibilities
  • Design Strategy: Develop user-centered design strategies based on business requirements and user needs. Create user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with product managers and engineers to ensure a cohesive and seamless user experience across all platforms.

  • Design research: Conduct your own user research to understand user needs, behaviors, and pain points, and usability testing to validate that our design decisions are effective. Translate research findings into actionable design insights.

  • Documentation: Create and maintain design documentation, including style guides, design systems, component libraries and user journey maps.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Present design solutions to stakeholders, clearly articulating the rationale behind design decisions.

Qualifications
  • Experience: Years of experience isn’t everything, but you probably have 4+ years of experience designing software, with a strong portfolio to match. This is a mid level to senior role, equivalent to about an L3 to L5 in many formal bigtech org structures.

  • Expertise: Expertise building large scale cross-platform consumer apps, especially in social/multiplayer/gaming products..

  • Skills: Expert-level Figma skills (you could teach a class on variables and prototyping). Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies. Experience with tooling around prototyping and motion (e.g. Framer, Rive, even After Effects) is a plus!

  • Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate design decisions and rationale. Strong communication skills, written and spoken, in English. You can confidently communicate and navigate nuance.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as an early hire at an early-stage startup. Comfort with ambiguity, non-design stakeholder management, and going from 10 to 10,000 ft altitude on problems quickly.

  • Experience designing and using AI products

  • Experience designing consumer apps, such as social media

  • Some front-end engineering skills. You know when to use rem vs em, for example, and the basics of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent can be a plus, but isn’t required.
