About Macroscope

Macroscope aims to be the source of truth of what's happening for any company that builds software. Our mission is to give leaders clarity and engineers time.

We help leaders understand how their products and codebases are evolving—what’s changing, who’s working on what, and where progress is happening—grounded in the ultimate source of truth: the code.

Macroscope is founded by former entrepreneurs who have started and sold multiple companies, and operated as product/engineering executives at public tech companies. We're fortunate to be supported by the best VC firms and angels in the business, including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Thrive Capital, Google Ventures, and Adverb.

About the role

We're hiring a generalist Product Designer to own anything at Macroscope that needs design. We're shipping product faster than ever, and this role exists to make sure everything—the product, the website, the marketing—ships with real design craft behind it.

This role will cover designing UI for new product features, developing new sections on our public website to showcase those features, and creating social content to market them. You'll work directly with our founders and engineering team, and your work will define the first impression of Macroscope for every customer.

We're looking for a design engineer at heart: someone who designs in Figma, ships production Typescript/React, and uses AI agents to cultivate craft at scale.

What You'll Do
  • Own design coverage across the company, product UI, front-end website, social content, and any other visual surface that needs a designer’s eye.

  • Design and ship product: take work from concept through production React/Typescript UI.

  • Drive content creation and code implementation of updates to our website macroscope.com.

  • Imagine and create compelling visual media to showcase, explain, and celebrate new product features and company announcements.

  • Maintain and extend our design system so quality scales with more autonomous agents.

  • Partner with engineers on in-flight features—tightening interactions, animations, error states, and edge cases so nothing ships half-designed.

What Success Looks Like
  • Nothing customer-facing ships without visual design attention.

  • The website feels usable, delightful, and up to date with the product itself.

  • Engineers and agents move faster because specs, components, and design-system primitives are ready when they need them.

  • Visual craft keeps pace with product velocity.

Who You Are
  • 2+ years of design experience, ideally at early-stage startups or on small teams where you were the design coverage.

  • Strong fundamentals: typography, layout, color, UX judgement, and visual taste.

  • Confident shipping front-end code (HTML/CSS, Typescript, React) for product UI and website updates.

  • Experienced designing for technical audiences; developer tools experience is even better.

  • Fast: high urgency when it comes to unblocking teammates.

  • Proactive: high agency for thinking of new ways to broadcast our product.

  • You use AI tools to accelerate your design and engineering work, and you're curious about staying up to date with the latest tools and workflows.

The base pay for the Product Designer position ranges from $150k/year to $300k/year. Pay is based on several factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

About you
  • You are extremely high agency. We are a small startup and we intend to keep an extremely flat organizational structure for as long as possible. Instead of relying on people managers, product managers and heavy processes, we rely on exceptionally talented individuals with high agency to be self-motivated towards contributing to our mission.

  • You want to work at an early stage start-up. The default state of any startup is failure. The only way to overcome the daunting odds of making a startup venture successful is for a densely packed group of insanely hard working and talented people to work together to building something useful to and loved by customers. If you're not willing to work extremely hard on something high risk, this startup isn't for you.

  • You act like an owner. You put immense care and craft into what you build because you take responsibility for all parts of the product. You don't walk past broken windows.

  • You care about what we're building. Life's too short to work on something you're not passionate about. We are a small group of ambitious people who want to build something insanely great that we want to use, and that we think every company will want to use. If our mission and product doesn't resonate with you, we understand and would encourage you to find something that does.

Skills Required

  • 2+ years of design experience
  • Experience at early-stage startups or on small teams
  • Strong fundamentals in typography, layout, color, UX judgement, and visual taste
  • Proficient in Figma
  • Confident shipping front-end code (HTML/CSS, Typescript, React)
  • Experience designing for technical audiences
  • Developer tools experience
  • Experience designing and updating public websites and marketing/social content
  • Experience maintaining and extending a design system
  • Uses AI tools/agents to accelerate design and engineering work
  • High urgency, proactive, high agency (ability to work autonomously on a small team)
