Leads the design of boat accessory components from concept through production. Responsibilities include CAD modeling, prototyping, testing, BOM creation, engineering change requests, dimensional analysis, compliance validation, vendor coordination, production support, documentation, and continuous improvement. The role collaborates with industrial design, production, purchasing, quality, warranty, parts, and marketing teams to deliver validated accessories meeting performance and regulatory requirements.

Job Summary & Responsibilities

The Product Design Engineer’s primary responsibility is to lead the design process of Boats Accessory components and systems from concept to production to achieve the product objectives within a specified time.

  • Design, prototype and test new parts and accessories by working with test technicians on projects for design validation including.
  • Work very closely with Industrial designers to keep concepts in line with boats design.
  • Strong CAD capability is needed for Part, ASM, Configurations, Prints, PDM Vault. (SolidWorks ideally)
  • Cross functionally work with Production, Purchasing, BOMs, Warranty and Parts Dept..
  • Lab testing-field testing to make sure all products meet our quality requirement.
  • Talking to vendors and pushing to get the project across the finish line in a timely manner.
  • Work with Marketing to provide necessary information for websites, brochures, documentation.
  • Assist with current production problems and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Write ECR and follow until implemented
  • Create and updates B.O.M.
  • Follow up on Continuous Improvement Projects and our Quality Feed Back Loop
Preferred Qualifications

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Compliance ensuring we are meeting NMMA / ABYC on new concepts.
  • Testing new ideas to improve performance or to fix issues with clear documentation.
  • Working with production and quality teams to implement new accessories into production.
  • Creating updated vector drawings for the new owner’s manual.  Involves taking 3D models, adding necessary information, converting to 2D for profile and top views, and adding 2D images. 
  • Parts gathering and fit verification.  Adjusting parts as needed and creating documents for assembly and BOM’s
  • Gather all hardware information to complete the BOM.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate degree in engineering or Industrial design degree
  • Marine experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of material and processes used in boat building is a plus
  • Required-experience with a 3-D CAD modeling package Solidworks preferred
  • GD&T, FMEA, dimensional tolerance stack-ups.
  • Positive attitude with a customer focus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good strategic vision and business knowledge.
  • High level of people skills, able to work in a team environment.
