We are looking for a Product Analyst to join our Portfolio Management and Research team at Western Asset Management (WAM) in Melbourne. In this role, you will contribute meaningful insights that support investment solutions designed to improve long-term outcomes for clients and communities. You will leverage your analytical skills to inform product decisions across our fixed-income platform, while building expertise and experience to support future career growth in areas such as product, research, portfolio management, or trading. How you will add value?Core Responsibilities:
Partner with Portfolio Managers, Client Service Executives, and Product Specialists to deliver quantitative and analytical support to the Client Service and Marketing teams
Analyze current and prospective portfolios and communicate investment strategy and drivers of relative performance
Create portfolio reports and analysis for Client Service and Marketing communications
Address quantitative and analytical requests from Client Service partners
Deliver statistical data and analytical reporting for internal stakeholders
Prepare recurring and ad hoc analyses to support Client Service and Marketing priorities
Produce performance and risk reporting, including key metrics, for external communication
Strategic Responsibilities:
Prepare monthly and quarterly, as well as other ad hoc market reports for client distribution
Draft monthly commentaries and provide ongoing portfolio analytics
Support new and existing business initiatives through request for proposal (RFP) responses and database queries
Provide client and portfolio analytics to support Product Specialists
Teams & Collaboration:
Support ad hoc projects and collaborate closely with cross-functional partners
Partner across departments to identify opportunities and resolve issues
Develop internal and external publications, presentations, and reports
Strengthen presentation skills to speak at small and medium-sized conferences and forums
Experience, Education & Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
5+ years of relevant experience in asset management is an advantage
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level I completed (minimum); progress toward the CFA designation preferred
Strong knowledge of or interest in fixed-income markets and instruments
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; strong Excel skills, including Visual Basic for Applications (VBA).
High proficiency with Bloomberg functionality and analytics
Working knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) and Python is a plus
Soft Skills:
Strong conceptual, structural, and analytical skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to identify key issues in complex topics and articulate insights clearly
Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines
Collaborative team player who supports shared priorities
