Procurement Overview:  

The Global Procurement Function at FMC is undergoing a bold transformation to become a world-class, future-ready organization at the center of FMC’s growth, innovation, and financial performance. Role Overview: 

The Procurement Director - Global 3rd Party Actives has global accountability for defining and executing sourcing strategies for third-party active ingredients (approx. annual spend $250M) that enable FMC’s portfolio of mixtures, private label offerings, buy/sell products, and technical partnerships.

The role partners closely with Business Development, Regional Commercial teams, Global Marketing, and Technical organizations to ensure freedom to operate, competitive cost positions, and supply resilience across the product lifecycle.

This position reports to the Chief Procurement Officer and leads a global team. The leader must drive cross-functional decision-making at pace, balancing short-term commercial resets with long-term category strategy. 

Responsibilities:  

A. Strategic & Transformation Leadership

Lead end-to-end reset of key 3rd party active partnerships, including:

  • Sourcing model redesign
  • Evaluation of make vs. buy vs. partner strategies
  • Alignment of agreements to market competitiveness benchmarks
     

B. Category and Sourcing Strategy

  • Develop and execute category strategies for third-party actives aligned to FMC portfolio priorities and market positioning.
  • Define sourcing strategies for new product introductions, Existing portfolio cost improvement, Strategic partnerships and alliances
  • Partner with Commercial teams to optimize regional product offerings, Buy/sell models, Portfolio rationalization
     

C. Cost competitiveness & Financial Impact

  • Lead should-cost modeling and total cost of ownership analysis to identify and deliver competitive positions vs. external benchmarks
  • Drive multi-year cost reduction roadmaps
  • Ensure all agreements are structured to maintain cost flexibility and downside protection
     

D. Supplier & Partnership Management

  • Develop next-generation supplier partnerships balancing collaboration and competitive tension
  • Manage supplier performance across cost, Quality, Reliability, Innovation
  • Navigate complex relationships where suppliers are also competitors or vertically integrated players
     

E. Risk & Supply Resilience

  • Mitigate risks from single-source dependencies in strategic mixtures
  • Build dual sourcing and contingency strategies to ensure continuity
  • Anticipate and manage regulatory and freedom-to-operate risks
     

F. Asset & Network Optimization

Partner with Technical and Manufacturing teams to ensure alignment between: Cost structures, Capacity plans, Portfolio needs
 

G. Market Intelligence & External Benchmarking

Build deep market intelligence on:

  • Global supply base (including China and India)
  • Cost benchmarks and process advantages
  • Competitor positioning

Translate insights into actionable negotiation and sourcing strategies 
 

Required Education & Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required; an Advanced Degree is preferred. 
  • A minimum of 10 years of business experience in a regulated environment within procurement, business development, marketing, and/or regulatory roles is required.
  • Experience in the Crop Protection or Agricultural Products industry is highly preferred.
  • A proven track record in negotiating large, complex supply agreements and demonstrated ability to define and execute effective procurement strategies is required.
     

 Must Have Qualifications & Requirements:  

  • Proven skillset in working with business development & commercial functions 
  • Demonstrated experience in working with other crop protection companies 
  • Knowledge of potential data requirements and license/royalty aspects of 3rd party actives and how to incorporate into contract for supply 
  • Understanding of general accounting and legal concepts as it relates to procurement: contingent liability, enforceability of contracts (legal consideration), and price competitiveness (e.g. Most Favored Nations).  
  • Capability to organize teams and initiate projects using project management skills   
  • Strategic sourcing proficiency, Ability to lead and drive category strategies following a clear methodology and thought process  
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills, a proven influence. 
  • Ability to influence and convince others without authority  
     

 Preferred Qualifications & Requirements: 

  • Knowledge and/or experience in other Procurement categories
  • Exposure to organizational transformation efforts
  • International experience and multi-cultural work environment
