Process Safety Engineer

Overview
The Process Safety Engineer will ensure that the safety standards and procedures are met during the development, design, and launch phases of all related projects. They will evaluate the risks associated with manufacturing processes and help develop safe protocols. They will help design and implement safety systems, conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards, develop emergency response plans and support training initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Ownership, trending and management of KPI’s to improve safety metrics.
• Manage the application of Process Safety elements as per project development stages.
• Perform risk analysis and coach others on the use of risk analysis techniques.
• Will take the lead in the Pre-Start Safety Review (PSR) Requirements. Includes supporting the full development of process application, software, and design.
• Act as Liaison for the Ministry of Labour.
• Collaborate with all teams to discover and implement long-term process improvement efforts.
• Perform audit of process safety management systems and execute risk mitigation and support with corrective actions.
• Mentoring & supporting role of the Joint Health and Safety committee (JHSC) ensuring the facility is following the OHSA regulations.
• Implement and maintain new safety programs to adhere and exceed Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety & Insurance Board, and various associated building code standards.
• May require flexing their schedule to accommodate business needs, also available after hours

Skills and Qualifications

• Applicants for the process safety engineer role are required to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering.
• Require a minimum of 2-5 years of engineering experience supporting Operations and/or Projects, such as plant or process engineering, project design, execution, engineering and/or technical service roles.
• Knowledgeable with OHSA regulations, process hazards, failure mechanisms, and safeguards.
• Knowledgeable with the Classifications of Hazardous Areas / Hazloc. 
• Require effective verbal and written communication skills to excel in this position. It is necessary for influencing, engaging, and facilitating workgroups, as well as managing interfaces with engineering consultants, construction, operations, and others.

The selected candidate for this role will be required to work onsite in Aylmer. Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and currently reside in the country, as we do not offer sponsorship.
