Apply process engineering knowledge and skills to support the synthesis of starting materials, pharmaceutical intermediates, and final bulk products in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner. Specifically, the process engineer is responsible for demonstrating process understanding, monitoring, and managing process performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Provide process engineering support for established processes. Analyze data and initiate continuous improvement.
- Support minor process scale-ups or process modifications.
- Manage ESHS, quality, cycle time, and equipment availability requirements.
- Work closely with customers and project teams.
- Working knowledge of core process engineering disciplines such as mixing, material science, heat transfer, mass transfer, filtration, and drying
- Identify projects to streamline and remove bottlenecks to increase productivity
- Provide recommendations regarding near term capital planning to support equipment reliability
- Serve as process engineer supporting a project responsible (PR) to implement improvements as identified above.
- Stay current on regulations, engineering standards, policies and procedures and good engineering practice
- Support continuous improvement of business processes within the engineering functions
- Performs minor modifications and technical review of production policies and procedures
Quality:
- Adherence to all written instructions.
- Timely reporting of all deviations to supervision.
- Training on each activity is completed and current and that each employee understands their assigned duties.
- Strick documentation practices are followed to ensure that all steps of the operations are appropriately documented.
- Ensure to maintain the work area in a state of cleanliness and sanitation through good housekeeping practices.
- Ensure the security and safety of the product through the reporting of any potential risk to supervision immediately.
- Ensure the safety of the personnel and product by wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) according to the operation being executed.
- Each individual should report any action that they believe could impact the SISPQ of any product immediately to supervision.
- A senior plant engineer could be assigned as lead of root cause investigator for equipment related quality events.
- Senior Plant Engineer would be expected to participate and/or lead Quality Risk Assessments for equipment.
Environmental, Safety, Health & Security (ESHS):
- Adhere to ESHS programs, rules, & procedures.
- Assume personal accountability for individual behaviors related to ESHS activities.
- Have the appropriate knowledge and tools prior to performing a task.
- Complete all required ESHS training and remain current with applicable learning plans at all times.
- Report all injuries to Employee Health Services or Security and supervision within the same shift of the incident occurring.
- Inform direct supervision of any ESHS hazards or concerns in the workplace.
- Provide feedback and coaching to coworkers on both safe and unsafe behaviors and conditions.
- Actively participate in the ESHS management system as directed by supervision.
- Initiate and lead projects based on inherently safer design concepts.
- Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and participate or lead Equipment Hazard Analysis (EHA)
- Associates Degree in science or engineering discipline, completion of some science or engineering coursework, or equivalent relevant experience
- Any chemical or pharmaceutical engineering manufacturing experience (preferred)
- Skills in successfully overcoming challenges and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Possess practical skills to solve process engineering issues
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong technical problem-solving ability
- Ability to influence groups without having supervisory responsibility
- Strong Computer skills in a variety of software packages
