Key Responsibilities:

  • Nitrogen Process Expertise: Serve as a key technical resource for LSB’s nitrogen manufacturing facilities, with a strong focus on ammonia production and working knowledge of urea. Provide guidance on complex process issues, technology decisions, engineering standards and industry best practices.
  • Process Engineering Leadership: Provide technical leadership to the Process Engineering organization, strengthening engineering capability, routines, standards and quality of technical work across LSB.
  • Engineering Capability & Mentorship: Coach and mentor engineers, strengthening technical problem solving, engineering judgment and understanding of nitrogen manufacturing processes. Promote cross-site collaboration, knowledge sharing and consistent application of engineering best practices.
  • Plant Performance & Optimization: Strengthen plant performance through routine analysis of process data, process modeling and equipment performance. Identify and prioritize opportunities to improve production, energy efficiency, reliability and plant constraints.
  • Troubleshooting & Reliability: Provide technical leadership for complex plant problems, significant operating events and recurring reliability issues. Lead or guide structured problem solving and ensure learnings are translated into sustainable improvements across LSB.
  • Process Safety & Risk Management: Provide technical leadership for process safety, operating discipline and operational risk, partnering with PSM, Operations and Engineering to strengthen operating limits, IOWs, operating practices, safeguards and risk controls. Provide technical guidance for PHAs, LOPAs, MOCs, incident investigations and other significant process risk activities.
  • Functional Safety: Partner with Controls Engineering to strengthen LSB’s functional safety program, providing process technical expertise for safety instrumented functions, protection layers, critical controls and the management of process safety risk.
  • Growth, Reliability & Capital Projects: Provide process engineering expertise for major growth, reliability and capital projects, with increasing responsibility as technical authority based on experience and capability. Provide technical leadership through FEL, technology selection, process design, design reviews and key technical decisions, balancing technical, operational and economic considerations and challenging licensors, engineering contractors and technology providers where appropriate.
  • Turnarounds, Commissioning & Startups: Provide technical leadership for major turnarounds, catalyst activities, commissioning and plant startups. Ensure technical learnings, operating experience and industry best practices are incorporated into future plant and project decisions.
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 8+ years of relevant process engineering experience in chemical, petrochemical, refining or similar continuous-process manufacturing.
  • Significant experience supporting nitrogen manufacturing facilities, with direct ammonia plant experience strongly preferred. Experience with urea and other nitrogen processes is beneficial.
  • Strong understanding of process engineering fundamentals, plant performance, troubleshooting, process control and automation fundamentals, and major process equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Management, including PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, MOC, PSSR and process risk management.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, mentor engineers and work effectively across Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Controls, PSM and Engineering.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, turnarounds, commissioning and plant startups preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical issues across all levels of the organization.

 

  • This position is based in Oklahoma City and provides corporate Process Engineering support to LSB’s manufacturing sites. The role requires up to 50% travel to LSB facilities and other locations as business needs require.
  • Ability and willingness to provide increased site presence during major projects, turnarounds, startups and significant operating events, including occasional support outside normal working hours.
  • Physical ability to work around industrial equipment, including climbing stairs and ladders, and to wear required PPE.
  • Willingness to work in and around 24/7 continuous chemical processing facilities.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering
  • At least 8 years of relevant process engineering experience in chemical, petrochemical, refining, or similar continuous-process manufacturing
