Job Description

We invite you to bring your experience and skills in Process Design Engineering to help develop innovative solutions for Ramboll's customers’ industrial chemical process projects. To succeed in this role, you must have a B.S. or greater Chemical Engineering and 3+ years of experience in chemical process design. Are you our new Process Design Engineer?

The Process Design Engineer will support design activities for customer process projects and is responsible for day-to-day project tasks. This individual will be required to coordinate work across multi-disciplined design teams in multiple geographies, can be working on several projects at once for multiple customers and may interface directly with the customer to execute projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops engineering studies, front-end loading (FEL) evaluations, detailed designs, and assists in developing cost estimates for industrial processes.
  • Develops conceptual designs and cost estimates for new plants or plant expansions.
  • Performs engineering calculations and develops study reports summarizing results.
  • Prepares mass and energy balances, process flow diagrams, piping & instrumentation diagrams, equipment specifications, and other design documents.
  • Solicits and reviews process equipment quotations, develops technical bid evaluations, selects equipment suppliers, and reviews fabrication approval drawings.
  • Responsible for working with internal and external teams to meet project objectives.
  • Participates in project meetings and design reviews and tracks progress of day-to-day commitments.
  • Adheres to the policies and standards set forth in the Firm’s Quality Management System.
  • Participates actively in creating a safety culture in the office and at project sites.
  • To facilitate in-person collaboration, the position will require working in the Syracuse, NY office at least three days per week. The remaining workdays may be remote.
  • 10 to 30% travel, valid driver’s license required.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Experience: 3+ years of relevant design experience. This experience is to have been gained in industry (e.g., consulting, manufacturing). Academic experience (e.g., laboratory work, teaching assistance, etc.) gained during the applicant’s education is valued, but would not sufficiently satisfy this requirement.

Critical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Ability to collaborate and work as a part of a team or independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Interest in continued growth and learning.
  • Resolves or escalates issues in a timely manner, often through coordination with project managers and clients.
  • Ability to independently work on assigned tasks within a defined schedule and budget
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) licensing is a plus.
  • Experience with Process Simulation Software (CHEMCAD or other) is a plus.
  • Experience with Hydraulic Modeling Software (PIPE-FLO or other) is a plus.
  • Experience with Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) is a plus.
  • Experience with commissioning and process system long-term operation is a plus.

Salary Transparency Statement

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $100,000 yearly. This range reflects the compensation we reasonably expect to offer at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and internal equity. Because we operate across multiple U.S. markets, pay may differ depending on the cost of labor in specific locations. In addition to base salary, this position may be eligible for bonus, overtime or other forms of compensation and we offer a comprehensive benefits package that supports well-being, professional development, and work-life balance.
