Position Overview and Responsibilities

Our Private Clients & Fiduciary Services Practice Group is among the most experienced in New England. Our attorneys work closely with individuals and families to understand the clients’ priorities and goals and their intentions for the legacies they wish to achieve. We represent a diverse client base, including high-net-worth individuals, fiduciaries, and organizations, in all aspects of trust and estate work. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with attorneys and professional advisors while providing practical, client-focused counsel and contributing to the continued growth of the Private Clients and Fiduciary Services practice. Candidates must be able to work a hybrid schedule with at least four (4) in-office days per week.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Drafting and implementing sophisticated estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, health care directives, deeds, beneficiary designation forms, revocable trusts, and other estate planning documents.
  • Conducting legal research regarding complex procedural and substantive issues related to probate and estate planning.
  • Counseling clients regarding estate, gift and transfer tax planning.
  • Advising fiduciaries on trust and estate administration matters.
  • Handling probate and trust administration matters from inception through closing.
  • Preparing and reviewing estate and gift tax returns.
  • Collaborating with financial advisors and other professional advisors.
  • Participating in business development and client relationship activities.
  • Contributing to the continued growth of the practice.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the Connecticut State Bar or eligibility to obtain admission within a reasonable amount of time.
  • At least four (4) years of experience in estate planning, trust administration, and probate administration.
  • Advanced research and writing skills including proficiency with legal research tools, including WestLaw.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience implementing and managing multiple projects.
  • Experience working as part of a team, independently, and with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills, with the ability to meet deadlines, delegate effectively, and thrive in high-paced environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and related software.

Compensation and Benefits

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $165,000 - $170,000. This is Verrill’s good faith estimate of the annual salary for the position at the time of this posting for the indicated location. Final base salary will be determined by several factors including, but not limited to skills, experience, job-related qualifications, and other market factors. This range represents only one component of a comprehensive compensation and benefits package at Verrill.
