Join us as a Principle Engineer
- This is an opportunity for a technically minded individual to join us as a Software Engineer
- You’ll be designing, producing, testing and implementing working software, working across the lifecycle of the system
- Hone your existing software engineering skills and advance your career in this critical role
- You’ll work from home some of the time, but you’ll also spend at least twice a week working from our London or Bristol office
What you'll do
In your new role, you'll engineer and maintain innovative, customer centric, high performance, secure and robust solutions. You'll be working within a feature team and using your extensive experience to engineer software, scripts and tools that are often complex, as well as liaising with other engineers, architects and business analysts across the platform.
You’ll also be:
- Producing complex and critical software rapidly and of high quality which adds value to the business
- Working in permanent teams who are responsible for the full life cycle, from initial development, through enhancement and maintenance to replacement or decommissioning
- Collaborating to optimise our software engineering capability
- Designing, producing, testing and implementing our working code
- Working across the life cycle, from requirements analysis and design, through coding to testing, deployment and operations
The skills you'll need
You'll need a strong background in software engineering, software design and architecture, with the seniority to own a complex workstream end to end and set the engineering standard for others. You'll bring experience of hands-on Avaloq scripting and parameterisation, including Report Writer, Workflows (WFC/WFA), Order Validations, Migration Scripts, Interface Definitions and related modules.
This is a hands-on build role, you'll be doing the Avaloq customisation and development yourself, alongside the wider project team, not only designing or overseeing it.
You'll also need deep experience of the Avaloq securities-trading (STEX) component and the securities trade lifecycle within a Core Banking or Wealth Management environment, supporting our investment-dealing capability as part of a major migration programme.
Additionally, you’ll demonstrate:
- Hands-on expertise in Avaloq STEX, order lifecycle, business-unit setup and order piping (nostro or vostro containers, SWIFT messaging and message-delivery rules, pooling and placement)
- Experience across the full trade lifecycle including order generation, pooling, placement, execution via an OMS, settlement and reconciliation, with awareness of MiFID II and EMIR transaction reporting and best execution
- A track record of leading delivery, owning a workstream autonomously, coordinating with testers, business users and architects, mentoring engineers and providing post-go-live support
- Warehousing or bulk-rebalance trading, OMGEO, CTM settlement matching and T+1, FIX connectivity, corporate actions, FX, fund dealing, and the Avaloq integration spine would be desirable

-
Flexible Benefits — A flexible ValueAccount structure with pension and benefit funding allows tailoring of health, protection, lifestyle, and savings options, with unused amounts typically paid as cash. This flexibility supports personalisation of coverage, particularly in Great Britain where the framework is most detailed.
-
Retirement Support — Employer-funded pension contributions are provided on top of salary in Great Britain, alongside automatic retirement enrollment and share/save programs. This creates structured long‑term wealth support as part of total reward.
-
Parental & Family Support — UK policies outline extended maternity, adoption and equal partner leave on full pay with a phased return, plus paid neonatal care leave. These provisions are positioned as market‑leading and complement broader flexibility resources.
