About the Role

The Principal System Engineer is responsible for leading early technical engagement with Japan OEMs to promote car audio business. Working with our Japan OEM customers and car audio teams such as hardware / software engineering, pre-development, and sales, this role will create solutions for the next generation of audio and lead/coordinate pre-development and customer presentations.

This role will support the pursuit of upcoming programs and seek out new expansion opportunities.


What You Will Do

  • Create customer proposals for next generation audio systems covering all vehicles at the JOEM by collaborating with sales, pre-development and engineering teams.
  • Become a key resource for the sales and predevelopment teams in helping understand the customer’s present and future vehicle system needs and how these needs impact our proposed audio solutions (which may include SW, HW, speakers, and other devices)
  • Plan and lead customer presentation / demonstrations to support future business pursuits.
  • Build up good relationships with OEMs’ engineering team and their management by eliciting their needs and future plans and working with our teams to incorporate customer feedback into our product / technology roadmaps
  • Collaborate with global team to align strategy, pursuit-related activities, and coordinate planning for customer demos / visits to our Japan Offices and overseas locations
  • Seek out new opportunities for technical collaboration with Japan OEMs that can enable business in the future.
  • Support marketing team and their activities to improve branded audio product image and value
  • Survey mega-trends and audio / automotive trends and develop strategies to countermeasure or leverage these trends in developing the car audio business

What You Need

  • 8+ years of engineering experience including 3+ years audio engineering and 4+ years automotive engineering
  • Technical knowledge of: acoustics, vibration, electronics, digital signal processing, hardware and software engineering, loudspeaker, critical subjective listening evaluation and its analysis
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Acoustic, Electronics, Mechanical, Physics are preferred.)
  • Experience participating in and/or managing a global cross-functional team
  • Proficient in Japanese language
  • Able to communicate in English (spoken and written)
  • Experience in client-facing role
  • Desire to communicate with customers and internal stakeholders

What is Nice to Have

  • Peripheral vehicle sound technology experience like voice communication, active noise cancellation, alert signal design, knowledge of microphone and accelerometer, etc.
  • Knowledge of Infotainment system, in-vehicle communication busses, vehicle E/E architecture
  • Master’s degree in engineering
  • Music activity, music related experience or to be music lover
  • Sales or Business Development Experience of luxury product or branded product
