Job DescriptionPrincipal, Sustainable Energies, CPPIB America, Inc., New York, NY:
Drive end-to-end execution of due diligence and negotiation of investment opportunities, portfolio company strategic and value creation initiatives, and internal strategic projects, serve as a team lead with oversight responsibility over deal and project teams. Oversee the process of evaluating investment opportunities, including leading development of key investment theses, workplan development, allocation and oversight of workstreams and responsibilities, and project management. Oversee, direct, coach, mentor, and advise junior professionals in the energy midstream and upstream oil and gas industries, and on project-specific teams comprised of individuals across the Sustainable Energies Group. Lead and oversee key project workstreams, including commercial and financial due diligence, the development of complex dynamic financial models, and valuation analyses. Lead and oversee the development of internal investment memoranda and recommendations. Prepare and lead investment committee discussions. Negotiate transaction and governance agreements and other transaction-related legal documentation. Oversee ongoing financial and operating performance of portfolio companies, including through board participation and representation. Source investment opportunities through preparing subsector and company primers to identify attractive market subsectors and trends, companies of interest, and investing partners, and presenting findings. Evaluation of growth equity, joint venture, and control transactions with equity investments greater than $200 million per investment. Build company operating models and leveraged buyout models for investments, including in the energy midstream and upstream oil & gas industries. Participate in portfolio company boards as a board member and/or observer. Conduct expert calls to support subsector and company research, including interview question list design and oversight. Work with expert networks to develop lists of relevant experts. This position will supervise 1 employee.
Full time employment, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week. Pay Range: $280,000 to $320,000 per year.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field, and 7 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate related work experience in investing and portfolio company management in the Energy sector.
Of the required experience, must have 7 years of experience in each of the following:
- Evaluating growth equity, joint venture, and control transactions (leveraged buyouts) with equity investments greater than $200 million per investment;
- Leading analyses and preparation of materials for portfolio company valuation;
- Building company operating models and leveraged buyout models for investments in the oil & gas and energy midstream sectors;
- Developing new strategies in emerging areas of energy transition (such as carbon sequestration, renewable fuels) and experience evaluating companies in that space; and
- Conducting expert calls to support subsector and company research, including interview question list design and oversight.
Of the required experience, must have 5 years of experience in each of the following:
- Sourcing deals and investment transactions in oil & gas and energy midstream sectors;
- Managing complex asset platform investments;
- Utilizing Microsoft Office 365, Capital IQ, SNL Financial (S&P CapitalIQ Pro), Workday, Protegent, and PeopleFluent;
- Working with third party management consultants;
- Leading due diligence workstreams for new investments, including developing key hypotheses and objectives, developing workstream scopes, performing analyses, and developing and defending conclusions and recommendations;
- Leading and supporting workstreams related to portfolio company value creation and strategic initiatives, including evaluation and execution of follow-on investments;
- Identifying and managing relevant third-party advisors as part of due diligence workstreams for new investments and workstreams related to portfolio company value creation and strategic initiatives;
- Developing investment memos and recommendations, and presenting to investment committees;
- Overseeing ongoing financial and operating performance of portfolio companies;
- Preparing internal materials to communicate portfolio company updates and recommendations;
- Participating in portfolio company boards as a board member and/or observer; and
- Working with expert networks to develop lists of relevant experts.
Telecommuting permitted up to 1 day per week.
International travel required up to 20%; Domestic travel required up to 30%.
