PAY RANGE
The Target Pay Range for this position is $189,000.00-$230,700.00 annually. The full Pay Range is $146,600.00 - $273,000.00 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. As a Principal Solutions Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of BECU’s lending and credit card technology ecosystem. You’ll bridge architecture and engineering, transforming complex business needs into scalable, secure, and innovative solutions that improve experiences for both members and internal partners. Your expertise will help drive modernization efforts, strengthen production stability, and accelerate the delivery of new financial products and digital capabilities. Through hands-on technical leadership, you’ll influence enterprise-wide design decisions, mentor engineering teams, and bring forward-thinking ideas that help BECU grow and differentiate itself in the market. To join our dynamic team, we require candidates to be residents of WA, OR, ID, AZ, TX, GA, SC, NC, CA or VA. If you’re located in Washington state and within a reasonable driving distance from Tukwila, we are requesting that you come into our HQ on Tuesdays & Wednesdays. For those candidates that live outside the commute distance of TFC and in any of our approved remote work locations, this role will be remote. WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Lead Solution Design: Design and deliver complex, enterprise-scale solutions that support lending and credit card platforms while aligning technical strategy with business objectives.
- Architect for Scale: Translate business and stakeholder needs into detailed technical designs, ensuring solutions meet performance, security, reliability, and scalability requirements.
- Drive Modernization Efforts: Identify opportunities to simplify complex systems, improve platform architecture, and introduce modern engineering practices that enhance speed and efficiency.
- Shape Cloud-First Solutions: Lead the design of cloud-ready financial solutions, leveraging modern application architectures, integrations, and services to support future growth.
- Partner Across Teams: Collaborate with architects, engineers, delivery teams, infrastructure partners, and business stakeholders to drive successful execution across interconnected systems.
- Guide API and Integration Strategy: Design, develop, and troubleshoot APIs and enterprise integrations that power critical lending and credit card experiences.
- Support Production Excellence: Analyze production challenges, identify root causes, and lead efforts to improve operational stability while balancing strategic project work.
- Build Innovative Solutions: Create prototypes and proof-of-concepts that solve complex business challenges and help advance BECU’s technology capabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a computer science or equivalent work experience required. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of information technology experience with demonstrated expertise in application design required.
- Experience with Financial products, i.e., Credit Card, Mortgage, Loan, Deposits, etc., required.
- Demonstrated experience in consumer financial products with expertise in UX, integration, and API layer required.
- Experience with public cloud (Azure/AWS/Google Cloud) technologies including Iaas, Paas, Saas offerings required.
- Experience leading and collaborating with multiple teams for enterprise-wide initiatives, including business unit teams, to deliver solutions through all aspects of the SDLC required.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience with .NET, C#, node.js and modern JavaScript Frameworks in TypeScript or Javascript (React, Angular, etc.), or Python. System administration and automation with Powershell or bash preferred.
- Strong understanding in SOLID design principles, Object-Oriented Programming and Design. Expertise with SOA patterns and distributed systems design preferred.
- Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery systems and tools such as Azure DevOps Services, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Teamcity preferred.
- Industry conference experience presenting in front of technically adept, and non-technical audiences preferred.
