About the Role
The SW engineer will be part of a team responsible for creating from scratch the Connectivity software for a high-end, embedded automotive Telematics system
Your Team
No direct reports, but serves as the technical lead for the System Team. In this role, you must ensure the team delivers all projects on time, within cost and with the expected quality
What You Will Do
Full responsibility for system and component architecture and design; provides and reviews High-Level Design Documents (HDD) and Detailed Design Documentation (DDD) for the system/components under his/her responsibility
Analyse the customer requirements (RFC, RFI, RFQ) allocated to software and map the analysed requirements to a new or existing software architecture
Evaluate and document the software architecture and present it to internal management, sales representatives and at customer meetings
Manage the implementation of the software architecture with both local and remote development teams
Resolve inconsistencies in case of unclear technical requirements and act as a contact point to the customer and internal teams
Consideration of Harman processes, standards of the automotive industry, Automotive SPICE and functional safety requirements
Provides impact analysis for design changes; provides accurate estimates in time & costs for customer-specific requirements
Together with the engineering manager, is responsible for the overall planning. Must assure all projects are staffed and have their work planned in such a way that we can meet our milestones while fulfilling the required processes
Timely escalation of major issues and blockers to the Global Engineering Lead, depending on the level of impact
Writes code and tests (white-box testing) the component, based on design documentation
Bug fixing and maintenance tasks for the Software Components were delivered
Analyse malfunctions in terms of time response, stability, robustness of components, as well as of the entire system
Analyses the system behaviour and predicts root-causes of reported issues
Mainly acts as an expert/consultant of the specified area – advises customers on best practices
Acts as a mentor or coach for less experienced engineers
Definition of non-functional requirements, e.g. SW metrics, software quality tests, stability criteria and memory/CPU budgets
Monitoring of development status and software quality, with means of design and code reviews
Analyse existing embedded software to add features, make modifications, fix bugs, and/or port to different platforms
Test software designs and code at the unit and system level to ensure that all requirements are met, and the highest software quality is achieved
What You Need to Be Successful
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science or appropriate graduation) or equivalent
Relevant academic background (e.g., BSc, MSc, or PhD) combined with substantial professional experience in C++ software development (typically 6–10+ years)
Strong knowledge of Linux-based systems
Experience with embedded projects and hardware handling
Proven solid experience as a software developer, system engineer or system analyst
Solid embedded and real-time applications development experience
Strong UML, Design Patterns and Linux system analysis expertise
Strong knowledge in inter-process communication, multithreading, and networking
Very good interpersonal skills, ability to present status to both technical and non-technical persons
Ability to train and coach engineers
Ability to anticipate important technical issues and to provide timely feedback to management
Maturity to contextualise own work with divisional priorities and possibilities
Ability to keep the engineering teams in the loop about emerging platform technologies and trends
Perfect English communication skills, both written and verbal
Bonus Points if You Have
Experience in automotive / Telematics systems
Knowledge of basic project management (collecting requirements and defining project scope, estimating activities, resources and duration, develop/manage project team, controlling product quality, risk management and status reporting)
Knowledge in agile software development methods (SCRUM, SAFe, AgileUp)
Willingness to travel (0-20% of time), depending on the project necessities
Excellent task and time management
Attention to detail and “can-do” attitude
Flexibility
Ability to work under pressure and under tight deadlines
Knowledge about Linux embedded power management (eg, Suspend to RAM), logging (eg, DLT), communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, etc.
