Heartbeat Health is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our Development team and help us deliver on our vision to enable the most effective, efficient, and engaging cardiac care in the world. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will collaborate with our Development team to design, develop and maintain high-performance, scalable and reliable software solutions.

About the Gig

• Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to a team of engineers in designing, implementing, and maintaining backend services. Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and drive best practices in software development.
• Multi-disciplinary Development: Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code adhering to best practices and coding standards in multiple tech stacks. Continuously optimize code for performance and scalability.
• System Integration: Integrate services with existing systems, third-party APIs, and microservices architecture. Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless interoperability and data exchange between different components.
• Security and Compliance: Implement security best practices and standards to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of data. Stay informed about security vulnerabilities and apply patches and updates as necessary.
• Testing and Quality Assurance: Develop comprehensive test suites, including unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests, to ensure the quality and reliability of backend services. 
• Performance Optimization and Scalability: Profile and optimize backend services for performance, memory usage, and concurrency. Identify opportunities for optimization and implement improvements to enhance the efficiency and scalability of services.
• Iteratively Enhance: Collaborate closely with our engineers, designers, and customers to iteratively enhance the Heartbeat platform. Your subject matter expertise will be critical in ensuring that we can determine the most efficient strategy to ship and iterate on our software solutions. 
• Culture & Execution: Be a torchbearer for the Development team culture that prioritizes iterative testing, learning, cross-functional teamwork, and outcomes. Your commitment to ferocious execution will help us turn groundbreaking ideas into reality, creating products that truly make a difference.

About You

• Experience: (8+ years) in software development building cloud-based, backend services. Proficiency in the Rust programming language, RESTful APIs, and interoperability with numerous third party systems is crucial. Bonus points for CICD experience with AWS, Kubernetes and development experience with Go, Kotlin and GraphQL. 
• Culture: Experience in a fast-paced, startup environment is a huge benefit. You’re someone who can drive positivity and excitement around the products we’re delivering. Always assuming the best intent when collaborating across teams, providing positive and meaningful feedback in PR reviews, and documenting and sharing domain knowledge and insights across the organization is a must.
• Agile Methodology: A solid grounding in agile software development methodologies alongside the Kanban framework is crucial. You’re someone who can take a complex set of problems and determine the most effective implementation strategy to deploy quickly and iterate continuously.
• Healthcare Insight:Have a finger on the pulse of the healthcare industry, perhaps with opinions on the nuances of care management or an opinion on perspective on the effectiveness of HL7 as a standard.
