Position Title: Principal Software Engineer
Location: Remote with travel to customer sites
Clearance Requirement: Top Secret/SCI required
Employment Type: Full-Time
Research Innovations, Inc. (RII) is breaking through the big, slow, status quo with transformative technology that fundamentally changes and improves the world. We develop cutting-edge software for all levels of the government and military. Using agile development practices and user-centered design, we create innovative software solutions for complex real-world problems.
We are looking for a committed Principal Software Engineer to join the MAX Electromagnetic Warfare (EW) product team within our Tactical Command & Control line of business. You will help build the EW and spectrum operations capabilities of the MAX platform — modeling complex electromagnetic environments, integrating physics-based propagation models, and turning messy real-world data into workflows warfighters actually use. Get s#it done.
This position requires an active US Top Secret/SCI clearance.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Design and develop EW and electromagnetic spectrum operations capabilities for the MAX platform, from data model to user-facing workflow
Model complex operational domains in code: design schemas and data models that unify disparate, messy data sources into coherent, trustworthy representations
Integrate and validate physics-based RF propagation models, terrain and clutter data, and third-party services via APIs
Build and maintain integrations with external C2 systems, sensor feeds, and telemetry sources
Develop with modern AI-assisted and agentic coding workflows: shape the problem, author and review detailed implementation plans, direct AI coding agents, and own the quality and correctness of what ships
Collaborate through plan reviews and merge requests in a highly collaborative, no-egos team culture
Demo working software to customers, translate their feedback into priorities, and iterate quickly
Support deployment of the product across cloud, on-premises, and edge/DDIL environments
Contribute to software design and test documentation, and mentor teammates in your areas of depth
Continuously challenge yourself to become a better software developer
WHAT YOU HAVE DONE
BS degree in a related technical field and 5+ years of relevant professional experience (an advanced technical degree may substitute for a portion of the experience)
Modeled complex real-world domains in software: schema and data model design, entity resolution across disparate sources, and API-based data integration
Professional experience in Python, C#, Java, or similar languages, and with SQL-based persistence solutions
Experience integrating data from third-party applications and services via REST APIs
Hands-on experience with AI-assisted or agentic software development, including reviewing and verifying AI-generated work
Disciplined testing practices: unit testing, test-driven development, and validation of your own work
Experience working in containers (Docker) and familiarity with Kubernetes-based deployment
Experience demoing software to customers and translating user needs into technical requirements
Ability to multitask, self-assign work, and function in a dynamic, fast-paced development environment
Experience mentoring other developers
Excellent verbal and written skills
EVEN BETTER
Experience with electromagnetic spectrum operations: spectrum management, RF propagation modeling, link analysis, or EW planning workflows
Experience supporting DoD customers, including on-site engagement with program offices or operational units
Familiarity with terrain, elevation, and land cover data sources (DTED, GMTED, LiDAR-derived datasets)
Experience with data across classification levels, cross-domain solutions, and build-low/ship-high development
Experience with Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) or integrating with platforms such as Palantir via OSDK/APIs
Experience with edge and DDIL deployment environments
Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience
- Experience modeling complex real-world domains, including schema and data model design
- Experience with entity resolution across disparate data sources
- Professional experience with Python, C#, Java, or similar programming languages

- Experience reviewing and verifying AI-generated work
- Experience with unit testing, test-driven development, and validation of work
- Experience working with Docker containers
- Familiarity with Kubernetes-based deployment
- Experience demonstrating software to customers and translating user needs into technical requirements
- Ability to multitask, self-assign work, and work in a dynamic development environment
- Experience mentoring other developers
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Active US Top Secret/SCI clearance
