Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the local Innovation Center three times per week, at minimum.General Motors' vehicles are packed with beautiful displays, and we need your engineering skill to put beautiful, fluidly-rendered graphics on them. We're looking for a principal graphics software engineer with expertise across the whole stack, starting at the GPUs/SoC hardware level, moving through the kernel and drivers, up through UI frameworks and the applications that are built on them.GM is a global leader, committed to delivering high-quality vehicles that wow our customers. You'll be part of that, as you work to put smiles on our customers' faces by meeting high quality and performance standards.Specific job responsibilities include:Help us ensure all graphics on our vehicles render perfectly and at high frame ratesAssist colleagues in designing and implementing software that efficiently uses finite hardware resources in the vehicleAssist in bringup of new SoCs/GPUsAdvising and collaborate with hardware teams on new designsDebug defects and crashes across the software stackDesign and implement new software componentsMentor other engineers and review code and designs

Qualifications/RequirementsBachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent10 years of experience in software developmentProficient C/C++ programming skills.Knowledge of Linux kernel internals and driver development.Familiarity with modern ARM-based SoC architectures.Experience with GPU drivers/APIs (OpenGL, OpenCL, DirectX, Metal, etc)Experience with UI frameworks (Android preferred but iOS, Windows, etc are also great)Demonstrated experience with user-visible solving graphics performance problems throughout the entire stackExceptional problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen attention to detail.Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.Highly developed oral and written communication skillsDemonstrated ability to work in an action-oriented decision-making environmentMust plan to anticipate risks associated with projects/tasks and have a plan to mitigate the risks in highly visible environmentsPreferred requirements:Bachelor's degree in software engineering or equivalent10 years of experience in software developmentCompensation: The expected base compensation for this role is: $172,900- $344,800. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position. Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
