Principal Scientist - Analytics
STR is seeking experienced Principal Scientists to lead the development and execution of advanced research programs to deliver analytic capabilities to our national security customers. At STR, Principal Scientists provide the technical leadership for multi-disciplinary teams of scientists and engineers on programs ranging from proof-of-concept demonstrations of novel technologies to the implementation of fully integrated operational systems. Successful candidates should have experience leading effective research teams, familiarity working with national security customers to understand their missions and needs, and a track record for delivering high impact capabilities.
STR’s Analytics Division develops and deploys a wide range of algorithmic technologies for defense and intelligence applications. Our current mission areas include Command & Control (C2), Targeting & Target Development, Indications & Warning, and Algorithmic Warfare. We have active research programs focused on artificial intelligence for Joint All-Domain C2, collaborative autonomy, automatic target recognition, tracking, pattern of life modeling, activity-based analytics for event detection, causal modeling for political & military analysis, adversarial machine learning, image and video processing, natural language processing, and the detection and characterization of information operations.
Requirements
In response to Executive Order 14042 and accompanying Task Force Guidance, all STR employees must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 by December 8, 2021, unless a medical or religious accommodation is formally approved by STR.
As a Principal Scientist at STR, you should have a technical background in analytics development and a drive to solve the most challenging national security problems. Ideally, you will have the following qualifications:
- An advanced degree in a relevant technical field such as electrical engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, physics, or another natural science or engineering discipline.
- A track record of innovation, conceiving new applications of technology to solve National Security problems.
- Experience writing successful proposals to national security sponsors such as DARPA, IARPA, AFRL, ONR, NRO, NGA, and DIA.
- Experience transitioning new capabilities to operational users in the Department of Defense (DoD) and the US Intelligence Community (IC).
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and presenting technical materials to colleagues, sponsors, and end users.
- Active or recent security clearance.
