Principal Product Strategist

Position Overview:

VGV is at an exciting time in its evolution, as it expands beyond “just a Flutter shop” and into a full-scale digital consultancy. As the Principal Strategist, you’ll have the opportunity to be a critical part in leading this journey, by both delivering digital product strategy engagements and founding a new strategy consulting offering.

As the Principal Product Strategist, you will initially focus on delivering strategy engagements for clients, guiding them through the process of evaluating both the problem and solution spaces. You’ll collaborate with researchers to identify unmet user needs, partner with designers to ideate and prototype, and paint future-state visions of potential client solutions. As the team grows, this role will evolve more into a leadership-focused position, where you’ll be responsible for building and leading a world-class strategy team. You will also collaborate with our Business Development team to bring our strategy services to market, pitch to potential clients, and drive growth for this offering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentorship and Team Building: Serve as the lead strategist in VGV’s new strategy offering by recruiting, mentoring, and building a team of strategists and researchers. Foster growth as this practice scales. Develop a talent pipeline for the next generation of strategic leaders.
  • GTM Strategy and Service Evolution: Partner with the CSO and Business Development team to craft go-to-market (GTM) messages for our new strategy consulting service. Shape the evolution of our strategy offerings, refining processes and methodologies that focus on desired outcomes for prospects.
  • Creative and Generative Thinking: Team with researchers to uncover and prioritize unmet user needs. Ensure that insights are deeply informed by user research and analytics to shape effective product strategies.
  • Evaluative Thinking: Create future-state visions for clients, prioritizing concepts based on three lenses: user desirability, business viability, and implementation complexity.
  • Designer Partnership: Collaborate closely with designers to ideate, prototype, and rapidly evaluate the potential value of concepts. Ensure alignment between strategic goals and creative output.
  • Articulate Business Value: Translate solutions into clear business value, partnering with client stakeholders to define return on investment (ROI) when applicable. Help clients understand how strategy aligns with broader business objectives.
  • Understand Engineering Complexity: Work closely with engineers and solution architects to assess the feasibility of potential solutions. Ensure that proposed solutions can be realistically built and delivered within the client’s technical constraints and timelines.
  • Value-Driven Roadmaps: Develop comprehensive product roadmaps that define Minimum Viable Products (MVP) and phased releases, setting clear priorities and timelines.
  • Client Elicitation and Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their business needs, identifying new opportunities, and ensuring satisfaction throughout the engagement lifecycle. Lead client ideation exercises and driving creative problem solving
  • Strategy as an Account Expansion Tactic: Create compelling strategies for key accounts as an account expansion exercise. Partner with delivery teams to understand the current client ecosystem so that you can excite clients about what they could build next.
  • Vision-casting and Storytelling for Persuasion: Craft and communicate compelling future-state digital visions for clients, using storytelling to create excitement and align stakeholders on the vision for their digital transformation. Strong public speaker capable of ‘owning the room’ from leading presentations to facilitating healthy group discussion
  • Thought Leadership: Represent our agency in industry events, webinars, and publications, establishing our voice and authority in the digital product strategy space.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in digital product strategy, including hands-on project delivery and leadership.
  • Proven track record of delivering successful strategy engagements for clients, ideally in an agency or consultancy environment.

  • Strong storytelling skills, with the ability to persuade and inspire clients around future-state digital visions.
  • Familiarity with the technical constraints of software development and an ability to partner with engineers to assess feasibility.
