New Visions for Public Schools designs, supports, and sustains great public schools for NYC's highest-need students.
The Role

Who We Are

New Visions for Public Schools is an established 30 year partner to New York City public schools that has continuously worked alongside key leaders to improve K-12 student outcomes in New York City. Over the last decade, New Visions has been at the forefront of building digital products that empower school, agency and city leaders with shared, actionable data views, as well as robust planning and collaboration tools.

Our core product (Portal by New Visions) is a web-based enterprise application, used by educators, city agency staff, and community-based organizations to support students. The Portal consolidates essential student data from multiple cross-agency sources, surfacing key indicators related to student progress and making it easy to take action to plan for student success. Available to all NYC public schools, DHS shelters, and multiple other agencies, the Portal has had a real impact on student outcomes, especially for marginalized populations too often left behind due to gaps in our infrastructure for communication and collaboration.

Our mission is to fill a critical need to build a shared understanding and a common set of tools and processes among school, city and non-profit staff to enable them to better serve the students and families in their care.

The Role

We are looking for a Principal Product Manager of AI who will work closely with our mission-driven, welcoming team of engineers, designers, data scientists, and stakeholders to introduce generative AI features into the Portal with an eye toward accuracy, security and reliability.  This is an exciting opportunity to have a far-reaching impact for an established and highly-engaged user base, and establish a product vision and stance on an emergent technology that will ultimately be used to improve student and post-secondary outcomes in NYC and beyond.

As Principal Product Manager, you will join the product team with a high level of established expertise, helping evangelize and establish best practices across the organization. You will partner with our engineering, design and data teams to build best-in-class products, thinking through strategy and approach from idea through rollout and scaling.

What You’ll Do

  • Deeply understand our programmatic work and how emergent AI technology can be applied to it; identify user and business problems and opportunities across a wide range of inputs
  • Fully own and implement the AI product strategy and roadmap that clearly prioritizes the highest impact work, and align senior stakeholders and cross-agency city leaders around that vision
  • Manage competing priorities with consistency and transparency, collaborating with teams throughout the organization to ensure feature adoption and success
  • Partner with our design team to conduct user research to surface and distill complex user needs into tangible problems to solve; define and frame those problems for the team
  • Collaborate with designers, data analysts, and engineers in solution discovery, testing and validating assumptions through constant iteration
  • Manage the entire software development life cycle from idea through product marketing and post-launch strategy, using Agile software development methodologies
  • Exemplify and champion best product practices across the organization

Who You Are

  • You have brought multiple high-usage 0-1 products to market, iterated on existing features, and have demonstrated success in scaling a product for usage and revenue growth
  • You have experience and expertise in the emergent LLM space, and have launched LLM-enabled features or products
  • You are able to consult at all organizational levels on considerations for an emergent AI strategy and approach, with a sensitivity and bias for data security, privacy and trust
  • You communicate and problem-solve collaboratively in a positive and ego-free environment, and are expert at facilitating conversations to accomplish your product goals across all organizational levels and in cross-agency contexts
  • You love working with data, and are passionate about data accuracy, security and stability
  • You are excited about our mission, and the prospect of solving problems that are challenging and affect urban schools everywhere

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, education; or training in a technology or business related field
  • 7+ years of experience in product management with a track record of building and scaling high-usage products
  • Agile product management experience, including knowledge of one or more methodologies (particularly SCRUM or Kanban)
