The Role

Principal Product Designer 

Build - Design Team | New York, NY 

What you’ll do: 

As a Principal Product Designer at Ethic, you will shape the vision and structure of our product design ecosystem, connecting advisor tools, portfolio workflows, and client experiences into a coherent, trusted platform. You will lead large-scale initiatives, working across product pillars to define interaction models, system patterns, and frameworks that scale design quality across the company.

You will partner with Product and Engineering leadership to guide strategic decisions and ensure that design drives measurable product outcomes. You will set a high bar for design excellence, mentor other leads, and help Ethic define what world-class product design looks like in sustainable finance. More specifically, you will:

  • Evolve the design vision and guiding principles across multiple product surfaces and workstreams, grounded in a deep understanding of finance and investing.
  • Own and drive the evolution of our product design system for consistency, flexibility, and speed.
  • Partner with leadership to connect design strategy to company goals and measurable outcomes.
  • Lead research and synthesis to uncover opportunities and define new product directions.
  • Develop frameworks that enable scalable, data-driven design decisions across teams.
  • Mentor and guide senior and lead designers to elevate quality, thinking, and collaboration.
  • Represent design in strategic discussions, influencing trust, usability, and business success for UX and UI experiences.

What you’ll bring to the table: 

  • 10 or more years of experience designing and shipping complex digital products.
  • Proven record of shaping product vision and driving cross-functional alignment at scale.
  • Deep expertise in product design, interaction design, and visual design craft.
  • Advanced understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
  • Experience with modern AI and design tools such as Figma Make to Claude Code.
  • Expertise in linear and non-linear systems design and information architecture.
  • Deep experience building or evolving design systems in collaboration with engineering.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to align product leaders and executives.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates exceptional craft, clarity of process, and measurable impact.
  • Experience mentoring other designers and leading through quality and clarity.

Compensation & Benefits: 

Compensation at Ethic is a combination of base salary, equity (stock options) in the company, and benefits. 

The base salary for this role will range from $240,000 - $260,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

Location: New York, NY
This position will be expected to work from our Tribeca office at least 3 days a week.
