Crux Climate is building the leading multi-product platform for renewable energy finance. Our We’re supercharging the clean economy

Crux is the capital markets platform changing the way clean energy and manufacturing projects are financed in the U.S. Crux’s platform, market intelligence, and expert team help developers and manufacturers unlock financing through all stages of project development and operation.

Our team of 60+ is composed of experts in energy, tax, finance, government, and technology. We have raised $77 million in capital from some of the best investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, Lowercarbon Capital, New System Ventures, Overture, Ardent Venture Partners, QED, Canapi, and others. These funds are joined by strategic investors including Pattern Energy, Clearway Energy, EDF Renewables, Intersect Power, LS Power, Orsted, Hartree Partners, Liberty Mutual Strategic Ventures, MassMutual Ventures, and OMERS Ventures.

An inflection point in American energy and manufacturing.

Energy demand is growing for the first time in 20 years, driven by surging manufacturing, transportation, electrification, and data centers. Simultaneously, hundreds of billions of dollars are being invested in domestic supply chains for critical minerals and components. Developers and manufacturers will require trillions of dollars in capital to meet growing needs.

Before Crux, the capital markets supporting this transformation remained opaque, fragmented, and complex. At Crux, we recognized the missing infrastructure: a central capital markets platform designed specifically for the next century of American energy and industry. By connecting counterparties, providing market intelligence, and streamlining transactions, we unlock faster decision making, lower cost of capital, and accelerated investment.

We are scaling quickly and looking for team members who are eager to combine technical excellence with an AI- and tech-forward mindset.

Role Overview

The Principal, Portfolio Management is a senior member of Crux’s Investments team, reporting directly to the Head of Investments. This is a newly created role designed to build out and lead the firm’s portfolio management function for renewable energy tax equity investments.

The Principal will oversee all aspects of investment management post-close, including funding mechanics, performance monitoring, and ongoing sponsor and investor interactions. The role requires both technical expertise in renewable energy project finance and the ability to design scalable systems for portfolio oversight. Over time, the Principal is expected to grow and lead a team, transitioning from primarily hands-on responsibilities to broader leadership of a portfolio management function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage tranching and funding schedules, coordinating with Finance, Legal, and external counterparties.

  • Monitor portfolio performance relative to underwriting, tracking financial, tax, and operational metrics.

  • Lead review and execution of consent requests, amendments, and restructurings, coordinating across internal and external stakeholders.

  • Develop reporting processes for investors, senior management, and board-level audiences, highlighting risks, variances, and performance trends.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for ongoing sponsor and investor interactions post-closing.

  • Collaborate with the Investment Principals to ensure smooth transition from execution to portfolio management.

  • Leverage technology and AI-enabled tools to enhance monitoring, reporting, and workflow automation.

  • Contribute to strategic discussions on portfolio optimization, including potential exits and secondary market opportunities.

  • Mentor junior staff as the team grows, fostering a strong culture of analytical rigor and accountability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree a plus.

  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in renewable energy finance, asset management, or structured finance, with direct exposure to tax equity and preferred equity investments.

  • Strong understanding of partnership flip and preferred equity structures, funding mechanics, and tax compliance considerations.

  • Proven track record managing portfolios of complex investments, including handling amendments, restructurings, and consent processes.

  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to build systems and processes from the ground up.

  • Strong communication skills, with experience preparing board-level reports and managing sponsor/investor relationships.

  • Comfort with technology and interest in applying AI-enabled solutions to portfolio monitoring and reporting.

  • FINRA license(s) required or willingness to obtain under Crux’s broker-dealer sponsorship.
