Location: Sydney or Melbourne
Permanent position
Role Overview

We’re looking for a Principal Platform Engineer who owns and leads IT Operations for the x15 Ventures platform, with clear accountability for IT Service Management, Incident Response, and Service Continuity. This role is about setting operational strategy, defining how services are run, and ensuring the platform remains resilient, predictable, and fit for purpose as the business scales.

The x15ventures platform hosts over 150 IT services across financial, payments and identity focused products. You’ll own the operational model for a modern, cloud-native platform that underpins these services, including resilience across data, networking, microservices, serverless, and containerised web applications. This includes driving incident readiness, recovery practices, and continuity planning so failures are contained, services recover quickly, and technology risk is controlled.

What You’ll Do

Platform Engineering

  • Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure and internal platforms (e.g. AWS/Azure/GCP)
  • Improve on developer and platform experience through automation, CI/CD pipelines, and self-service tooling
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.) with strong governance, change controls, and auditability aligned to CommBank Risk and Cyber frameworks
  • Embed DevSecOps practices into the platform, ensuring security, compliance, and risk controls are built in by default rather than layered on later
  • Partner with engineering teams to ensure applications meet required security, risk, and operational standards while still scaling efficiently on the platform

IT Operations

  • Own and improve IT operational systems (PagerDuty, Observability Stacks, Assurance tooling)
  • Establish and lead framework for incident management and response. Lead the strategy to meet SLAs across service uptimes and limit incidents that result in customer impact.
  • Be accountable for Service Management, including Data Backup Management and Service Continuity.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience as a Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer, SRE, or similar
  • Comfortable working across both engineering and IT operations
  • Strong cloud experience (AWS/Azure)
  • Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform preferred, Serverless Framework, CloudFormation, SST)
  • Solid understanding of networking, security, and identity
  • Experience with CI/CD and automation
  • Pragmatic mindset — you value reliability and simplicity over complexity

Why This Role

  • Real ownership across platform and IT — not siloed
  • Opportunity to shape how platforms and operations scale together
  • Mix of strategic platform work and hands-on operational impact
  • A role where “keeping things running well” is genuinely valued
