What you will do
We are seeking a Principal Payments Architect with deep expertise in the acquiring side of payments. In this role, you will design, build, and optimize our payment processing architecture, ensuring high availability, security, and scalability. You will collaborate with engineering, product, and business teams to drive innovation and improve transaction efficiency for our enterprise clients.
Responsibilities:
- Architect and optimize high-performance payment processing systems, focusing on acquiring, settlement, and reconciliation.
- Lead the design and integration of acquiring platforms, merchant onboarding solutions, and payment gateway systems.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (PCI DSS, EMV, PSD2, ISO 8583, NACHA) and regulatory frameworks.
- Develop strategies for fraud detection, chargeback management, and transaction security.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners, including acquirers, processors, and card networks, to enhance payment flows.
- Evaluate and integrate new payment technologies (e.g., tokenization, network tokenization, real-time payments, blockchain for payments).
- Optimize performance by identifying bottlenecks in transaction processing, latency reduction, and scalability improvements.
- Mentor and guide engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence in payments architecture.
Requirements and technical skills:
- 10+ years of experience in payments architecture, with a strong focus on the acquiring side.
- Deep expertise in acquirer processing, interchange fees, authorization flows, and chargeback management.
- Strong understanding of payment protocols such as ISO 8583, ISO 20022, and real-time payment networks.
- Hands-on experience with payment gateways, merchant acquiring platforms, and acquiring banks.
- Familiarity with cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP) and microservices-based payment systems.
- Proficiency in APIs, SDKs, and payment integration frameworks (REST, SOAP, GraphQL).
- Experience with high-scale, low-latency payment transaction systems handling millions of transactions daily.
- Knowledge of fraud prevention and risk management strategies in acquiring.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to drive technical discussions and influence business strategy.
