Join the AI Platform team at Grab, where you empower different teams to leverage AI. We create cutting-edge tools and infrastructure that democratise AI, sparking innovation throughout our services.

Get to Know the Role

As a Principal Machine Learning Engineer in our central AI team, you will report into the Head of Engineering, Machine Learning and Experimentation Platforms and work onsite in Grab One North office. You will lead the transformation of machine learning within Grab. Your work will influence how AI adds value across the organisation.

The Critical Tasks You will Perform

  • You will shape and direct the long-term AI strategy at Grab, ensuring our platform supports advanced AI/ML applications across all teams.
  • You will identify and guide research initiatives, integrating advancements like foundation models and reinforcement learning into Grab's ecosystem.
  • You will collaborate with product and engineering teams to design and deploy AI-first features, enhancing user experience and operational efficiency.
  • You will build and oversee scalable, ML/AI platforms that allow teams to iterate AI models.
  • You will translate new AI research into production-ready systems, ensuring they are scalable and impactful.
  • You will develop systems that automate model workflows including training, evaluation, and deployment, to facilitate AI-driven decision-making.
  • You will implement and advocate best practices for AI fairness, interpretability, security, and governance, ensuring ethical AI use.
  • You will work with leadership to align AI strategies with Grab's goals, identifying new opportunities for AI contributions.

Qualifications

What Essential Skills You will Need

  • You have at least 8 years of experience in AI/ ML engineering with experience developing AI-powered platforms and products, and 2 years in a leadership capacity (technical leadership, mentorship, or management).
  • You have foundation in modern AI methodologies like deep learning, generative models, and multimodal AI. You are familiar with frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or JAX.
  • You have mastery in MLOps and AI infrastructure, with experience in scalable system architectures, model training pipelines, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • You can design and deploy user-facing AI products through cross-functional collaboration.
  • You have expertise in transforming AI research into practical, production-level applications.
  • You can translate our needs into a strategic AI roadmap that adds value aligned with our goals.
  • You are proficient in Python and knowledgeable in large-scale data processing (Spark, Ray, Dask), along with software engineering practices like CI/CD.
