As a Principal Hardware Engineer at Honeywell Aerospace, you will play a key technical role in leading, designing and developing sophisticated hardware solutions that advance the future of aerospace technology. You will apply deep technical expertise to create innovative, high-reliability hardware that contributes to safer, more efficient, and more dependable aerospace products.

In this role, you will support Honeywell Aerospace’s Hardware Center of Excellence organization and lead hardware development of the next generation Head-Up Display (HUD) system. Working under minimal supervision, you will collaborate with world-class engineers to design, test, validate, and transition complex hardware from prototype through production. You will also serve as a technical mentor, supporting the growth of junior engineers and contributing to the success of complex engineering programs.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of advanced circuit design from concept through production.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define hardware requirements and ensure seamless integration with software and systems engineering.
  • Perform requirements development, circuit design, schematic capture, PCB design support, and comprehensive hardware validation to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance.
  • Conduct troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause analysis during development and qualification phases.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure products meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current with emerging hardware technologies and aerospace industry trends to drive innovation in product designs.
Qualifications

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or a related field with 15 years of hardware engineering experience, or
  • Master’s degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or a related field with 13 years of hardware engineering experience.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency due to export control and ITAR requirements.
  • Experience developing avionics hardware throughout the full product lifecycle, from requirements through certification, production, and sustainment.
  • Strong knowledge of safety-critical airborne hardware development processes and requirements-driven design methodologies.
  • Expertise in analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuit design, including schematic capture and printed circuit board development.
  • Experience with microprocessors, memory architectures, high-speed interfaces, and field-programmable gate array development.
  • Working knowledge of airborne hardware certification, regulatory compliance, and design assurance processes.
  • Proficiency in hardware verification and validation, including requirements-based testing, qualification testing, and traceability management.
  • Experience performing hardware integration, debugging, root-cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity, electromagnetic compatibility, reliability, and environmental design considerations.
  • Experience with configuration management, engineering change control, and product baseline management.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturability, design for testability, production transition, and manufacturing support.
  • Proficiency with electronic design automation, simulation, and laboratory test equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across systems, software, mechanical, safety, manufacturing, and supplier teams while providing technical leadership and clear communication.
  • Prior technical leadership experience, including design reviews, mentoring, and customer engagement.

WE VALUE

  • Experience with modern processing technologies, including microprocessors, FPGAs, memory, and high‑speed I/O.
  • Experience designing module-level analog/linear circuits such as signal conditioning and data conversion (ADC/DAC).
  • Demonstrated experience performing Product/LRU and Printed Board Assembly (PBA) design verification and qualification.
  • Working knowledge of DO‑254 (Design Assurance for Airborne Electronic Hardware) and RTCA DO‑160 qualification guidelines.
  • Proven ability to design, simulate, analyze, and verify hardware performance against requirements.
  • Proficiency with Mentor Graphics Xpedition (or similar design tools), Mathcad, LTspice, and Microsoft Excel.
