Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Principal Engineer - 5G Subscriber Data Management is part of the DISH Wireless Core Network Engineering organization and will be responsible for being at the forefront of the technology roadmap that is ahead of us as we build and optimize our network. One of the main responsibilities of this Architect will be to manage the roadmap (up to 2 years) for the 5G Standalone Core SDM Network functions AUSF/UDM/HSS/HLR/EIR/IMEIDB/UDR and work with our vendors to manage the feature set/content as well as drive the product & solution architectural improvements to further simplify & optimize our network deployment.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for the architecture & design of the DISH 5G Standalone Core Network; This includes but is not limited to understanding fully how the current network is architected & identifying areas of improvement/modernization that we need to undertake in the near future to make it more reliable
  • Working with the 5G Core Network vendors (Nokia, Mavenir, and Oracle) on the product roadmap & align it with DISH Business Requirements
  • Maintain the existing Network Architecture document repository & continue to enhance it as we add more products and use cases
  • Author HLD's and LLD's in collaboration with our engineering teams for the Infrastructure and Network function deployment; Collaborate with peer teams (AWS, IP Engineering ) to plan ahead for vertical/horizontal integration with other network elements
  • Act as the final design authority when it comes to core network evolution but at the same time, take feedback from all relevant stakeholders when making such decisions
  • Understand the device & chipset roadmap as well as associated launch deadlines and ensure the network stays ahead of the curve and is not falling behind on evolution
  • Work closely with our IT/OSS/BSS teams to understand the impact of provisioning on the network and also define rules/policies that must be implemented within 5G Core to support controlled market/regional launch for various services
  • Work with business and IT team to evaluate the impact of provisioning requirement
  • Provisioning API changes and their impact on the new Subscriber data management layer
  • Manage administration of LDAP and other databases which are part of Subscriber Data Layer network functions
  • Take responsibility as the technology thought leader within the DISH Wireless team but keep a deep focus on ensuring the direction we are taking is going to produce tangible & measurable benefits to DISH Wireless & our Boost Infinite brand
  • Be comfortable in engaging with the engineers from our vendors in helping triage & debug complex network activities and also collaborate with our test teams to identify the means to test/validate complex network services
  • Drive our vendors to deliver test cases against the features that are being delivered ahead of time & also contribute directly towards ensuring we are fully testing features before they hit our production network
  • Work with our performance engineering teams & NOC to establish and continuously enhance the baseline KPI's required to measure the health of our network; when required, define new KPI's working with our vendors/partners & get them implemented
  • Provide input to the DISH Core Automation team on opportunities to automate/proactively monitor our network for faults and anomalies on top of the existing FCAPS and Monitoring Tools
  • Conduct regular design workshops/sessions and ensure every stakeholder within DISH is aligned with the 5G Core Technology Roadmap & where we are headed in the next 2 years (rolling period)

Skills, Experience and Requirements
Education and Experience:

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or a similar field
  • 10+ years of prior experience on vendor or operator side leading the architecture & evolution of core network (5G would be preferred, 4G would be considered mandatory)
  • 2+ years of IMS, LTE, and 5G Core Network Deployment experience is highly desired. (AMF, SMF, UPF, NRF, SEPP, BSF, NEF, IMS, SIP)


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of 5G Standalone Core Network Architecture & Service Based Interfaces
  • Expert knowledge in 5G Subscriber Data Management (SDM) related technologies, platforms along with 5G subscriber authentication framework
  • Expert knowledge in Database redundancy, replication, Synchronization
    Subject Matter Expert in implementing, integrating, and deploying solutions related to subscriber data management (HLR, HSS, EIR, IMEIDB, GSSMADB, UDM, UDR, Provisioning GW, AAA on either private cloud or public cloud like AWS/OCI or GCP
  • Proven work experience in 5G / SDM / IMS
  • Proven knowledge of technologies such as Service Based Architecture (SBA), Subscriber Data Management functions, http2, Diameter, Sigtran, SS7, and 5G Protocol
  • General understanding of TCP/IP networking and familiarity with TCP, UDP, SS7 RADIUS, and Diameter protocols along with SOAP/REST API working principles
  • Experience with Python scripting or any other scripting language for Automation required for Database migration


Salary Ranges
Compensation: $127,050.00/Year - $181,500.00/Year
