We are seeking an outstanding Principal Data Engineer to join our team and help to shape the direction of our data and analytics platforms that we are building.

As a Principal Data engineer with expertise in data engineering, you’ll work at the forefront of regulatory reporting technology, delivering critical solutions that support regulatory compliance and the Bank’s global ambitions. You’ll be an integral member of our Engineering practice. Your role will be to lead and guide a team of engineers collaborating across a wide range of business and technical stakeholders to deliver a transformative and strategic data platform initiative to meet current and future crew requirements

This role sits within the Treasury Crew, where we design and deliver technology solutions that ensure the CBA Groups compliance to Regulatory reporting for Liquidity, Interest Risk in the Banking Book, Securisation and other reporting through the design, development, maintenance and optimization of solutions.

As a Principal Data Engineer, you -

  • Work with the team to understand our customers' core business objectives and deliver quality data centric solutions within committed timeframes

  • Contribute to thought leadership enabling analytics teams to deliver world class data centric solutions and analytics by championing sustainable and re-useable data assets

  • Design and build group data assets by integrating diverse data from internal and external sources.

  • Help to promote best in class coding standards and practices to ensure high quality and minimum risk.

  • Collaborating and communicating with business and delivery stakeholders and working without supervision.

  • Identify and escalate Technical Debt through simple processes to support effective planning and risk management.

  • Build solutions that are fit for purpose, perform well with large data volume and complex data transformation rules, and reliable to operate

You’ll bring a broad technology background with data engineering as a core strength, along with the confidence to influence technical direction, guide teams and deliver practical solutions to complex data challenges.

Experience across following will set you up for success:

  • Ability to design solutions to meet the highest possible quality standards while simultaneously balancing security, performance, availability, and maintainability concerns

  • Continuously improve the data products with best engineering solutions.

  • Expert in ETL framework design and build for cloud native technologies like AWS, Snowflake and so on.

  • Prior experience in design & building data platform for cloud native cloud native technologies like AWS, Snowflake and so on.

  • Prior experience in design & building financial reporting data products would be highly regarded.

  • Strategize, Design and Implement (hands on) highly reliable and scalable data pipelines and data platforms with comprehensive test coverage on AWS Cloud.

  • Build and implement data pipelines in distributed data platforms including warehouses, databases, data lakes and cloud Lake houses to enable data predictions and models, and reporting and visualization analysis via data integration tools and frameworks.

  • RDBMS Experience on any prominent Database is required with strong SQL expertise.

  • Proficiency in automation tools and scripting (e.g., bash scripting, cron jobs)

  • Strong hand-on experience through all stages of SDLC.

Skills Required

  • Expertise in cloud-native ETL framework design and implementation (e.g., AWS, Snowflake)
  • Strong RDBMS experience with advanced SQL skills
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing scalable data pipelines, warehouses, lakes, and lakehouses
  • Proficiency in automation tools and scripting (bash, cron jobs)
  • Experience across all stages of the SDLC with comprehensive test coverage practices
  • Ability to design solutions balancing security, performance, availability, and maintainability
  • Experience integrating diverse internal and external data sources to build reusable data assets
