Principal Consultants – Safety & Risk / RAM
io consulting is looking for experienced Principal Consultant(s) to join as a technical leader in Safety, Risk and RAM. You’ll be at the forefront of delivering complex studies across energy transition, oil & gas, and other forward-looking infrastructure projects, from FEL1 to FEL3.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead and deliver advanced technical safety, risk and RAM solutions, including consequence modelling, frequency and reliability analysis, QRA, ALARP demonstration, safety case development, and RAM modelling.
- Oversee wider formal safety studies, ensuring outputs meet high standards of quality, cost, and schedule.
- Act as a technical authority, guiding teams and reviewing project deliverables.
- Expand io’s services into complementary areas such as FTA, RCA, FMECA, and human factors engineering, strengthening our market position.
- Support clients in meeting regulatory and legislative obligations with clear, authoritative analysis and advice.
- Contribute to business development, proposals, and client engagement.

- Mentor and coach junior engineers, building capability and confidence within the team.
- Work flexibly with our hybrid model: three days a week in our Central London office, with the option of a 9-day fortnight when needed.

What we’re looking for
- A degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or another relevant STEM field.
- 10–15 years of experience in safety, risk, and/or reliability engineering, ideally with exposure to high-hazard industries (energy, oil & gas, chemicals, renewables).
- A proven track record delivering complex technical safety/risk analyses and RAM studies at a senior level.
- Strong background in tools and methodologies such as PHAST, SAFETI, QRA, FTA, FMECA, MAROS, TARO.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, combined with strong communication and report writing ability.
- A collaborative, proactive, and flexible approach to consultancy work.
