Principal Design Engineer, Personal Care, Advanced DevelopmentSummary of Position:
We are looking for a Principal Design Engineer to join our Personal Care Advanced Development team. This role will help us build a new generation of innovative Personal Care products for the Shark brand. We thrive on designing and manufacturing great products that delight our customers. Working as part of our Advanced Development team, you will bring inspiration, creativity, and technical substance to our development efforts to deliver credible solutions to populate our product roadmap.
Role Functions:
- Takes a lead role (independently and in teams) in the development of novel Personal Care concepts and technologies for our next generation of products.
- Mentors more junior team members, with potential for management if desired. Supports all team members and encourages their efforts.
- Collaborates to help establish a project’s user, design, and functional requirements, deliver robust solutions to satisfy those requirements, then help to validate through testing and building consensus on next steps.
- Responsible for developing proof-of-concept prototypes via CAD, rapid prototyping, and testing with consumers.
- Responsible for facilitating work with third-party firms to develop technical solutions and prototypes.
- Takes overall ownership of designs through conception, CAD, visualization, prototyping, and verification, whilst consistently working at pace & successfully mentors the team to do the same.
- Continuously evaluates and improves designs for efficient design, manufacturing improvements, increased quality and value to consumers.
- Applies grounded engineering standards to deliver real solutions.
- Applies understanding & experience of high-volume manufacturing processes and materials to optimize designs.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with colleagues.
- Collaborates seamlessly with our U.S. and China based Product Development teams to ensure that great ideas make it through to production.
Requirements:
- Education Level: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Design Degree with a focus on Engineering principles.
- Approximately 7-10 years proven experience in Mechanical/ Product Design/ Engineering environment.
- Experience in the consumer goods household appliance space desirable. Experience in personal-care appliances a plus.
- Experience in plastic manufacturing processes desirable
- Experience of delivering real world products to market
- Ability to use SolidWorks and/or Creo CAD package(s) to a high level.
- Ability and drive to identify, solve, implement, and verify user and technical solutions autonomously.
- Track record of identifying consumer and product problems and solving them with applied design process.
- “Hands-on” - building of prototypes, product testing in the lab, developing and reporting, from early mock-ups to fully functional integrated prototypes.
- Flexible and collaborative- these are key to success at SharkNinja.
- Positive attitude with an inquisitive nature.
- Appreciation for electrical engineering, Arduino, C++, software and UX design helpful but not essential.
