Overview:
A Precinct Committee Officer (PCO) is an elected or appointed representative of a political party at the precinct level. The PCO serves as the primary liaison between the party and voters in their precinct, helping to mobilize support, increase voter turnout, and strengthen party organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Voter Engagement: Identify, contact, and engage with voters within the precinct to encourage participation in elections.
Election Support: Assist in voter registration, promote party candidates, and distribute campaign materials.
Party Representation: Act as a representative of the political party at local meetings, events, and conventions.
Get Out the Vote (GOTV): Organize grassroots efforts to increase voter turnout through door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and other outreach methods.
Precinct Meetings & Caucuses: Attend and participate in precinct, county, and state party meetings and caucuses.
Candidate Recruitment & Support: Help identify and support candidates who align with the party’s values and priorities.
Communication & Reporting: Report voter concerns and precinct-level political trends to party leadership.
Ballot Assistance: Help ensure voters understand how and where to vote, including deadlines for registration and election procedures.

Term & Selection:
Elected PCOs: Typically elected in the party’s primary election and serve a term (two years) and must refile to run biannually during the May filing week.
Appointed PCOs: If no one is elected, the county party may appoint a PCO to fill the vacancy.
