PR & Social Media Strategist

About Instructional Empowerment
Instructional Empowerment partners with K-12 school systems to strengthen instruction and leadership through the Model of Instruction, School Advancement methodologies, and tools like Empowerment Central — helping districts build lasting instructional capacity from the classroom to the central office.
The Opportunity
Instructional Empowerment is looking for an experienced, writing-driven PR and Social Media Strategist to build real, tangible visibility for our work in the communities we serve. This isn't a role built around long-term national brand campaigns — it's built around quick, achievable wins: a local news feature, a district backlink, a customer quote that turns into a story. You'll be the person turning our customers' and implementers' success into content the world can see, and turning their enthusiasm into momentum other districts can feel.
This is an experienced, individual-contributor role, not an entry point into PR or communications. The right person already speaks K-12 fluently, has a track record of building grassroots momentum for a product, and can write polished, accurate, short-form content quickly and in volume.
What You'll Do
  • Personally write press materials, media pitches, blog content, and social copy built around customer and implementer stories.
  • Conduct customer interviews and turn them into authentic testimonials and short case studies.
  • Build relationships with local and regional publications — district newsletters, local news, education trade press, and community outlets.
  • Pitch and secure customer-centered stories, interviews, and podcast placements.
  • Proactively secure backlinks and website links back to Instructional Empowerment through guest posts, partner mentions, and district relationships.
  • Design and drive a social media advocacy strategy for customers and implementers — identifying energized customers and giving them simple, shareable ways to tell their own story.
  • Build and maintain a repeatable outreach pipeline, tracking placements, links, and relationships across every business unit.
  • Report quick-win results on a regular cadence and keep an organized, visible system of progress.
  • Partner closely with Product Marketing Managers and the Social Media Specialist — you own where and how customer and product stories get placed externally; they own product accuracy and channel execution.
What We're Looking For
  • K-12 fluency, required. You already understand districts, schools, and how this industry operates — you're not learning the language on the job.
  • Several years of relevant PR, communications, or advocacy experience. This is not a role for someone early in their career.
  • Concrete, specific examples of past work: helping a company start a movement, activating brand advocates, or running a successful grassroots campaign for a product.
  • An exceptional writer who can produce accurate, polished copy quickly and in volume.
  • Demonstrated success building relationships with local or regional media, districts, or partners for coverage and links.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented — comfortable tracking outreach and relationships across multiple business units without dropping the thread.
  • Entrepreneurial and process-minded, able to build and run a repeatable outreach pipeline solo.
  • High energy and fast-moving, with a bias toward quick, visible wins over slow-building national campaigns.
Backgrounds We Love
A traditional national PR background isn't the right fit here — this role lives in local and regional relationships, not national outlets. Strong candidates often come from:
  • Communications, PR, or social media leadership for a school district.
  • Local or regional journalism.
  • Product or brand advocacy / grassroots marketing for companies that serve K-12 education.

A Benefits Package Designed Around Your Well-Being
  • Multiple medical plan options, including a 100% employer-paid health plan
  • HSA and FSA options available to save for medical expenses, with employer-funded HSA contributions for those participating in eligible healthcare plans
  • Company-paid dental, vision, life, STD, and LTD coverage
  • 15 days of PTO available in your first year of employment
  • 8 paid holidays, plus 2 floating holidays
  • 401(k) with a 4% company match
  • Salary range $65,000-$75,000

Skills Required

  • K-12 fluency (knowledge of districts, schools, and K-12 operations)
  • Several years of relevant PR, communications, or advocacy experience
  • Concrete examples of past work activating brand advocates or running grassroots campaigns
  • Exceptional writing ability; produce accurate, polished copy quickly and in volume
  • Demonstrated success building relationships with local or regional media, districts, or partners for coverage and links
  • Ability to conduct customer interviews and convert them into testimonials and short case studies
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; comfortable tracking outreach and relationships across multiple business units
  • Entrepreneurial, process-minded, able to build and run a repeatable outreach pipeline solo
  • High energy, fast-moving, bias toward quick, visible wins
  • Communications, PR, or social media leadership experience in a school district
  • Background in local or regional journalism
  • Experience in product or brand advocacy/grassroots marketing for K-12 education companies

What We Do

At Instructional Empowerment, our mission is to end generational poverty and eliminate achievement gaps through redesigned rigorous Tier 1 instruction that ensures deeper learning for ALL students. We believe true empowerment is achieved when systems and structures align to ensure students engage in rigorous, standards-based tasks that build knowledge with peers in collaborative, interdependent teams. We partner with school and district leaders to build schools’ capacity and instructional systems, driving rapid, measurable, and long-term student outcomes. By shifting from teacher-directed instruction to student-led team learning, we empower every student to become an independent, critical thinker who takes ownership of their learning. We are so serious about our mission that we founded our own independent Applied Research Center. Our research center verifies every project using the most exacting federal research standards. We ensure our methods work in every school and every classroom in all the different communities that our partner schools serve. When implemented effectively, student-led team learning has been proven to close or narrow opportunity and achievement gaps. We see this impact across our partner schools, where students develop the high-agency skills essential for success in a rapidly evolving world. If you believe what we believe, we hope you’ll join us to make the teaching and learning process more empowering for every child and educator.
