GM Performance Power Units - Concord, NC
Power Unit Integration Engineer - Onsite
Job Summary
GM Performance Power Units LLC is seeking a Power Unit Integration Engineer to manage the mechanical integration of the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), Energy Recovery System (ERS), and PU supported vehicle systems into the race vehicle. Based at the GMPPU facility in Concord, this role acts as the primary technical interface between GMPPU and the Cadillac F1 Team, coordinating vehicle integration activities and supporting FIA compliance with homologation and change requests. The role ensures that the Power Unit envelope, vehicle interfaces, and regulatory requirements are understood, controlled, and incorporated into the Power Unit definition. Working across Design, Performance, Program Management, Reliability, Assembly, Testing, and FIA compliance functions, the position supports successful vehicle integration throughout development, homologation, and operational use.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish, document, and coordinate agreement of Power Unit-to-vehicle interface requirements with Cadillac F1, ensuring changes and open points are communicated and resolved through the appropriate technical channels.
- Ensure the Power Unit definition supports vehicle installation, removal, serviceability, and maintenance requirements, including access, clearances, connection points, tooling, and assembly/disassembly considerations.
- Support Power Unit FIA regulatory compliance, including implementation and verification of applicable technical requirements and preparation and maintenance of homologation and change request documentation.
- Coordinate Power Unit to vehicle mechanical requirements including packaging envelopes and installation requirements across structural, power transmission, fuel, cooling, inlet, exhaust, hydraulic, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
- Maintain authoritative interface documentation, installation criteria, envelope definitions, and integration status reports.
- Lead Power Unit integration and interface reviews with internal stakeholders and Cadillac F1.
- Support investigation and resolution of integration issues identified during digital mock-up, physical installation, assembly, inspection, or vehicle build activities.
- Identify integration risks, dependencies, open decisions, timing constraints, and communicate their impact to Program and Engineering teams.
- Assess engineering changes for impact on vehicle interfaces, packaging, installation, accessibility, and serviceability, and coordinate implementation of affected interface and installation definitions with internal teams Cadillac F1.
- Participate in design, release-readiness, and build-readiness reviews where changes or decisions may affect Power Unit integration.
- Coordinate competitor integration benchmarking and translate relevant findings into technical studies or requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement of interface-management, packaging-control, and cross-functional handover processes.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in vehicle integration, systems engineering, packaging engineering, race engineering, powertrain installation, or a comparable role in motorsport, automotive, aerospace, or another highly controlled engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of internal combustion engine and/or hybrid or high-voltage Power Unit architecture, components, interfaces, and installation constraints.
- Ability to interpret complex CAD assemblies, packaging studies, engineering drawings, technical specifications, interface-control documents, and regulatory requirements.
- Working knowledge of large-assembly CAD and product lifecycle management environments, preferably Siemens NX and Teamcenter or comparable systems.
- Strong systems thinking and the ability to understand interactions across mechanical, thermal, electrical, controls, and operational domains.
- Excellent cross-functional communication and meeting facilitation skills, with the confidence to challenge unclear inputs and secure timely technical decisions.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain clear interface ownership in a fast-moving development environment.
- Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent combinations of education, military experience, technical apprenticeship training, and relevant professional experience will also be considered.
