Job Summary:
The Visualization Developer will be responsible for planning, executing, and managing the migration of dashboards and reports from Tableau to Power BI. This role involves closely collaborating with stakeholders to understand existing Tableau visualizations and ensuring a seamless transition to Power BI, while maintaining or enhancing the functionality and performance of reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Migration Planning:
- Assess existing Tableau dashboards, reports, and data sources to plan the migration process.
- Develop a detailed migration strategy, including timelines, resource requirements, and risk management.
- Report Development:
- Recreate and enhance Tableau visualizations in Power BI, ensuring they meet or exceed the original functionality.
- Design and implement new dashboards in Power BI based on legacy Tableau reports, incorporating feedback and best practices.
- Data Integration & Transformation:
- Connect Power BI to existing data sources used by Tableau, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
- Optimize data models and queries in Power BI to enhance performance and scalability.
- Implement ETL processes where necessary to prepare data for Power BI.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with business analysts, data engineers, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure successful migration.
- Provide training and support to users transitioning from Tableau to Power BI, including how to navigate and utilize new dashboards.
- Performance Optimization:
- Monitor and optimize the performance of Power BI reports to ensure they are efficient and user-friendly.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to the migration or performance of Power BI reports.
- Documentation:
- Create detailed documentation for the migration process, including mapping of Tableau features to Power BI equivalents.
- Maintain documentation on new Power BI dashboards, including data sources, calculations, and usage guidelines.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to improve the visualization and reporting processes during migration.
- Stay updated with the latest features and updates in Power BI and recommend their use where applicable.
- Experience:
- Proven experience (3+ years) with both Tableau and Power BI in a report/visualization development
- Hands-on experience with Tableau to Power BI migration projects is highly preferred.
- Strong experience with SQL and data manipulation.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server.
- Advanced proficiency in Power BI, including Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service.
- Strong understanding of DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) and Power Query.
- Experience with data modeling, ETL processes, and integrating multiple data sources.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) and data warehousing concepts.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality work.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Good to Have:
- Certification in Power BI or Tableau.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and project management tools (e.g., Jira, Trello).
