Duties and Responsibilities
- Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
- Capable under direct supervision to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy.
- Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
- Able to formulate a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning (family is included in teaching as appropriate).
- Able to demonstrate basic knowledge of fetal monitoring.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers and physicians.
- Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
- Will provide care appropriate to condition and age of the patient.
- Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum and Newborn Nursery departments.
- Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
- Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
- Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
- Documentation meets current standards and policies.
- Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
- Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
- Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s/department’s Ethics and compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor or upward through chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or hospital outline.
- Employee adheres to and practices the standards of performance in the Standards of Performance handbook.
Requirements
Regulatory Requirements
- Completes annual educational requirements within the assigned time frame.
- Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations related to their department and, as appropriate, to the hospital.
- Current state of Florida Registered Nurse Licensure.
- Postpartum and Newborn Nursery experience preferred.
- BLS required.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification within one year preferred
- IV certification for LPN
- ACLS preferred.
Skills Required
- Current Florida Registered Nurse licensure
- Basic Life Support certification
- Completion of annual educational requirements
- Compliance with applicable state, federal, Joint Commission, hospital, and departmental regulations
