Job Summary:   The Portfolio Manager (PM) is responsible for managing, expanding, and protecting an assigned portfolio of commercial loan relationships while maintaining exceptional credit quality and client satisfaction. The PM serves as the primary credit relationship manager by underwriting new and existing loan requests, monitoring portfolio performance, identifying credit risk trends, and recommending appropriate credit actions to the Credit Administrator and Chief Credit Officer.

The PM manages a diversified portfolio that may include commercial lines of credit, working capital loans, equipment financing, acquisition (M&A) financing, owner-occupied commercial real estate loans, investor commercial real estate loans, and SBA loans.

The PM works closely with Commercial Loan Officers, SBA Loan Officers, Business Banking Officers, Account Managers, Treasury Management Specialists, and Credit Administration to strengthen client relationships, expand profitable lending opportunities, refer deposit and Treasury Management opportunities, and maintain the highest standards of credit quality.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Manage, retain, and expand an assigned portfolio of commercial loan relationships while maintaining exceptional credit quality and client satisfaction.
  2. Underwrite new loan requests, renewals, modifications, extensions, and credit accommodations while preparing comprehensive credit memoranda and recommendations for approval by the Credit Administrator and Chief Credit Officer.
  3. Continuously monitor borrower financial performance, collateral, covenant compliance, industry trends, guarantor strength, and other risk indicators while proactively identifying deteriorating credit quality.
  4. Present sound credit recommendations supported by thorough financial analysis, industry research, collateral evaluation, and risk assessment.
  5. Recommend upgrades, downgrades, watch list status, criticized asset classifications, and other risk rating changes in accordance with Bank policy.
  6. Identify opportunities to expand existing lending relationships through additional lines of credit, equipment financing, working capital facilities, commercial real estate loans, acquisition financing, and SBA lending solutions.
  7. Identify opportunities for additional commercial operating accounts, Treasury Management services, and Key Executive & Owner (KEO) accounts while coordinating referrals to the Account Manager and Treasury Management Specialist.
  8. Conduct regular portfolio reviews with clients to discuss financial performance, borrowing needs, industry trends, succession planning, and future financing opportunities.
  9. Monitor concentration risk, policy exceptions, covenant compliance, past dues, collateral trends, and emerging portfolio risks while recommending appropriate corrective action.
  10. Collaborate with Commercial Loan Officers, SBA Loan Officers, Business Banking Officers, Account Managers, Treasury Management Specialists, and Credit Administration to provide comprehensive relationship management.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Commercial credit underwriting expertise.
  • Advanced financial statement and cash flow analysis skills.
  • Global cash flow analysis experience.
  • Commercial real estate and SBA credit experience.
  • Risk rating and portfolio monitoring expertise.
  • Commercial loan structuring experience.
  • Strong commercial relationship management skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and credit presentation skills.

Skills Required

  • BA preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years banking experience with emphasis in relationship management, portfolio management, and commercial lending
  • Proven ability to manage a portfolio of commercial clients including monitoring loan covenants and structuring loan proposals
  • Experience preparing credit underwriting analysis and credit memoranda
  • Ability to evaluate financial statements, tax returns, appraisals, environmental analyses, title and UCC reports
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with leadership qualities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to self-generate and drive new business; strong presentation skills
  • Team player, self-starter, flexible, able to multitask, demonstrate integrity, work independently, meet deadlines
  • Professional image and client-facing demeanor
