Symmetry is a business in build mode, evolving, growing, and redefining what investment solutions should look like.
The Portfolio Manager will be responsible for managing multi-asset portfolios within a multi-manager framework. This includes manager selection, portfolio construction, asset allocation and feedback presentations to the retail and institutional market.
The role requires a deep understanding of investment markets, portfolio construction, and operational execution within a regulated South African financial services environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Investment Management

  • Hold overall responsibility for designing, monitoring and ongoing active management of multi-managed solutions, both at an asset class and multi-asset class level.

Insights and Reporting

  • Write thought leadership articles.
  • Contribute to debate and decision making.
  • Review performance and allocation reports.
  • Present to clients in the institutional and retail market.

Organizational Risk Management

  • Adhere to the philosophy and process of the multi-manager.
  • Manage solutions within agreed mandate parameters.
  • Apply prudent risk management and oversight.

Client report-backs

  • Present to customers covering markets, economics, asset allocation, performance .
  • Provide deep insights into the active managers and index solutions in each strategy.
  • Enhance the profile of the business and investment team on external platofrms.

Recommendations

  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the investment process and philosophy.

Improvement/Innovation

  • Take responsibility for designing, developing, and delivering process enhancements, new processes and continuous innovation around multi-management processes.

Internal Client Relationship Management

  • Partner with various teams within the organisation to promote and distribute our strategies.

Needs Assessment

  • Stay on top of industry developments and maintain a deep understanding of the local and global markets, as well as active managers in all markets.

Personal Capability Building

  • Act as subject matter expert in an area of technology, policy, regulation.
  • Maintain external accreditations and in-depth understanding of current and emerging technologies, external regulation, and industry best practices through continuing professional development, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.

Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Investment Management, or related field
  • Active CFA charter holder in good standing
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in portfolio management, investment research, or multi-manager environments.
  • Strong understanding of South African investment regulations (FAIS, CISCA, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Copilot.
  • Analytical mindset with strong quantitative and qualitative research skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple portfolios simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, especially in client-facing contexts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage with external managers and service providers.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
