Position Summary 

The Polygraph Examiner administers Counterintelligence Scope Polygraph (CSP) examinations on behalf of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) in support of substantive investigations, counterintelligence screening, insider threat inquiries, and Special Access Program (SAP) security. The Examiner conducts initial and periodic/non-periodic CSP examinations in accordance with AFOSI Polygraph Program policies, prepares required chart and report packages, and coordinates closely with QC personnel to ensure all examinations meet federal and program standards.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Administer initial, periodic, and non-periodic CSP examinations to government-affiliated civilians, contractors, and military personnel using AFOSI-approved testing techniques (directed lie/probable lie) and formats (TES, AFMGQT, U-Phase, or other formats approved by AFOSI Polygraph management). 
  • Ask only questions within the approved scope of polygraph coverage; terminate and refer to the AFOSI Polygraph PM/PTCOR any examination involving admissions of crime or where rights advisement is required. 
  • Prepare, submit, and maintain clear, comprehensive, concise, timely, and accurate polygraph charts, audio recordings, and report packages in accordance with AFOSI Polygraph instructions and federal polygraph standards. 
  • Enter all required examination documentation into AFOSI-approved databases in accordance with program procedures. 
  • Coordinate scheduling and travel logistics with the AFOSI Polygraph PM, PTCOR, Schedulers, and IAs; travel CONUS as required to conduct examinations in assigned Zone(s). 
  • Maintain and safeguard all AFOSI Polygraph instructions, forms, charts, and examinee data in accordance with program security and retention requirements; do not remove such material from government-approved facilities without written authorization. 
  • Attend required AFOSI Polygraph orientation, briefings, and continuing education (CE) training. 


Minimum Qualifications / Requirements 

  • Graduate of the Basic Course in Forensic Psychophysiology (Forensic Psychophysiology Program) from the Department of Defense Polygraph Institute (DoDPI), Defense Academy for Credibility Assessment (DACA), or National Center for Credibility Assessment (NCCA), or an equivalent program taught at the U.S. Army Military Police School (USAMPS). Certification must be current and active  
  • Able to provide certification documentation, including an itemized list of courses attended in the current cycle and copies of course certificates (or, if unavailable, written NCCA verification of status). 
  • Must complete a minimum of 80 hours of Continuing Education (CE) biannually in accordance with the Federal Polygraph Continuing Education (CE) Certification Program, including required countermeasures (CM) training, all pre-approved by the AFOSI Polygraph PM. 
  • Active DoD SECRET security clearance required for the duration of the contract; loss of certification or clearance eligibility disqualifies the examiner from performing under the contract. 
  • Strong technical report-writing skills; ability to produce clear, accurate, and properly formatted polygraph charts and reports per AFOSI standards (format, terminology, abbreviations, and grammar). 
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the Continental United States (CONUS) as required by assigned Call Orders. 
  • Professional demeanor, sound judgment, and the ability to function effectively during extended periods of high pressure and stress. 


Preferred Qualifications 

  • Prior experience conducting counterintelligence-scope or security-screening polygraph examinations for a federal agency or the DoD. 
  • Experience working within a federal non-personal-services contract environment. 
  • Familiarity with AFOSI-specific reporting formats, databases, and reciprocity/authentication procedures. 


Work Conditions 

  • An examination session is defined as a 4-hour block; sessions are conducted at approved government or contractor facilities meeting AFOSI operational and security standards. 
  • Must present a professional appearance and demeanor at all times and function as an integral member of a team responsible for USAF personnel security. 


Security Requirements 

  • Must possess and maintain an active DoD SECRET security clearance for the duration of the contract. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC). 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen eligible for the required background investigation. 
  • Escort required at all times when entering or working within designated TS/SCI secure spaces (SCIFs); no independent access to information above the SECRET level. 
  • Must comply with all AFOSI/DoD information assurance, CUI, Privacy Act, and HIPAA safeguarding requirements, including annual Information Assurance (IA) awareness training. 
  • Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs) are prohibited in designated AFOSI/DAF facilities; weapons, firearms, and ammunition are prohibited on any military or USG facility during performance of this contract. 

Skills Required

  • Graduate of DoDPI, DACA, NCCA, or equivalent Basic Course in Forensic Psychophysiology
  • Current, active polygraph certification with documentation of course attendance
  • Minimum of 80 hours of Continuing Education biannually, including countermeasures training
  • Active DoD SECRET security clearance for the duration of the contract
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for required background investigation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Strong technical report-writing skills and ability to produce AFOSI-formatted charts and reports
