About the Role

This role is responsible for a portfolio of programs and leads a team of Program Managers to deliver Harman’s portfolio of projects on time, at cost, and meeting all quality standards. As the Japan PM Group lead you will oversee the program management, customer engineering and resident teams for Toyota programs. You will be the global center of CAM engineering and development for all Toyota telematics programs, and work with teams in multiple regional locations, including North America, Europe, South America and APAC. Programs that are acquired under any Toyota “Family” companies, will have teams directly reporting to this role. Additional global responsibilities will include the management of the PACE25 activities on programs across all SBU, maintenance, and EOL forecast and redesign if required. This role will also act as a formal escalation path for programs requiring local interface with Toyota executives.

Your Team

Your team consists of multiple program managers, Customer, Systems, Electrical, Integration and Mechanical engineers, to support the delivery of all assigned projects with Toyota.

What You Will Do

· Lead a team of program managers to deliver a portfolio of customer programs

· Support and mentor program managers by removing barriers and providing guidance when needed

· Execute the HR cycle activities including hiring, performance management, succession planning, coaching and development.

· Act as a first point of escalation with the customer, engage and moderate cross functional recovery actions

· Directing globally distributed engineering and validation teams across multiple Toyota programs in the planning and execution of the customer program (quotation to launch).

· Define the strategy for managing the active development programs and new programs that come to quotation.

· Develop strong customer relationships with Group Manager and higher-level customer interfaces.

· Responsible for overall success and profitability of the product launch (i. e. work with Sales and Marketing to hit gross margins, introduce new features, etc).

· Maintain the budget, scope, and program schedule for all programs under your leadership.

· Manage program risks proactively, identify program risks, and coordinate meetings with the CPM and multi-discipline functions to address risks before they become issues.

· Support continuous improvement of project management processes and metrics to track and measure project success. (Manage all program/product delivery elements).

· Responsible for high level tracking and reporting the progress of programs to both Harman and customer leadership.

· Owner of the fiscal year budgeting process for the assigned BU and customer group projects.

What You Need

· Bachelor of Science in a technical field or equivalent experience.

· Minimum 15 years product development and/or program management experience with specific experience in at least one area of technical specialization (software, hardware, mechanical or manufacturing) preferably in an automotive application.

· Developed and launched multiple concurrent products through the lifecycle from business commitment through stable production as program manager.

· Previous experience leading a team of Program Managers (direct or indirect)

· Expected general skills includes, but not limited to, cross functional team leadership, arbitrate technical tradeoffs, problem solving, negotiation, P&L understanding and communication skills; fluent in English (written and verbal)

· Strategic vision to set program direction on existing programs and new business opportunities.

· Must be able to articulate vision, owner of decision making/outcomes with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and customers

· Experience with managing globally distributed development teams

· Experience in a customer-facing role

· Knowledge of Toyota (processes, people, way of working, etc).

What is Nice to Have

· Masters of Science, Technical or MBA

· PMP Certification

· Automotive supplier, Tier1 Electronics background

· Experience with Toyota and their development processes

· Systems/software experience with complex development cycles that span multiple release versions.

What Makes You Eligible

· Be willing to travel up to 20%, domestic and international travel

· Be willing to work in an [office, manufacturing facility, client-site} OR This role is eligible to work remotely full-time with occasional trips into the X office location required (this could be on 24-hour notice)

· Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment

· This position requires the use of a HARMAN or customer-owned vehicle. As such, any offer of employment will be contingent upon having a clean driving record, which will be evaluated and determined in HARMAN’s sole discretion, no more than 4 active points for moving violations (issued by any motor vehicle agency), and no references to operating a vehicle under the influence of controlled substances within the last 10 years.
