As the Plant Manager, you will lead management and operational performance of a large liquid industrial coatings manufacturing plant. This plant serves a competitive market segment with short lead times and demanding OTIF (On-Time In-Full) delivery requirements. You will ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective production while maintaining the highest quality standards and strict compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations. You will improve operational excellence through the deployment of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) methodologies and foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and customer focus. You will report to the regional Operations Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all plant operations to achieve and exceed OTIF delivery targets, ensuring customer satisfaction in a market with short lead times and high service expectations.
- Develop production plans that improve throughput, minimize lead times, and maintain flexibility to respond to changing customer demands.
- Analyze performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, quality, delivery, cost and productivity.
- Champion the implementation and sustainment of LSS tools and methodologies and foster a culture of problem-solving and data-driven decision-making throughout the plant.
- Lead teams in implementing continuous improvement projects that deliver operational efficiency and cost reduction.
- Promote and enforce a safety culture, ensuring full compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations to mitigate hazards and ensure environmental compliance related to chemical handling, waste management, and emissions.
- Maintain rigorous quality control systems to exceed customer specifications and industry standards.
- Collaborate with R&D and quality assurance teams to resolve product or process issues promptly and deliver quality improvement plans aligned with operational excellence goals.
- Develop a high-performing team of managers, supervisors, engineers, technicians, and operators, emphasizing accountability and continuous learning.
- Promote employee engagement and retention through communication, training, and workforce development programs.
- Manage workforce planning, performance management, and succession planning.
- Develop the plant budget, focusing on cost control, resource optimization, and capital investment prioritization.
- Implement opportunities for cost savings and productivity improvements aligned with operational excellence.
- Present detailed operational and financial reports to senior management.
- Collaborate with sales, supply chain, R&D, and corporate functions to ensure alignment of plant operations with goals and customer requirements.
- Represent the plant in community and industry forums and local authorities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field
- 8+ years of progressive manufacturing management experience
- Experience in coatings, chemicals, industrial coatings, chemical handling, and safety regulations.
- Lean Six Sigma expertise, certifications preferred.
