Description

The Plant Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting activities at the manufacturing facility. This role partners closely with the plant leadership and the CFO to drive profitability, maintain strong financial controls, maintain accurate cost accounting and improve financial performance. The Plant Controller will serve as the key business partner to plant management and provide financial analysis, performance reporting and prepare the annual budget. 

Plant Responsibilities: 

Financial Reporting and Analysis: 

  • Update dashboard information in conjunction with month-end financials. Complete and present month-end financials- ie Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss, other operational performance metrics 
  • Ensure Bills of Material are as accurate as possible.  Work with Engineering to make updates 
  • Analyze production hours to meet efficiency goals 
  • Test overhead rates annually and determine amount of under/over absorption based on prior year or budget.  Work with CFO to determine required rate adjustment 
  • Book all entries for capital assets and ensure asset listings are accurate 
  • Complete the annual budget with the General Manager.  Track progress and provide updates to all departments. 

Cost Accounting and Inventory Management: 

  • Oversee inventory accounting, valuation and physical inventory processes.    
  • Ensure accuracy of plant inventory – Raw, WIP, finished goods, supplies, etc.  Ensure cycle counts are completed to ensure no large write-offs are required during annual physical inventory count.   
  • Supports sales and dispatch by ensuring accurate yard inventories are maintained. 
  • Measure purchasing savings and report on initiatives that are driving cost lower 
  • Oversee the payables process and ensure controls are in place for all invoice types. Work with plant personnel to ensure invoices are coded correctly and approved 
  • File personal property, sales and use tax as required 

Internal Controls and Operational Support: 

  • Serve as a financial business partner to the General Manager and plant management 
  • Support cap-ex projects and complete financial analysis and modeling as needed  
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP in addition to company policies and procedures 
  • Support all internal and external audit activities 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field 
  • 5+ years of accounting or finance experience in a manufacturing environment 
  • Experience with ERP systems, Microsoft Excel skills and manufacturing reporting tools 
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership abilities
