Pipe Design Drafter 3

Summary:

The Drafter is responsible for developing accurate shop pipe fabrication spool drawings from client-provided drawings and project specifications. This position uses AutoCAD and, when applicable, Spoolgen to prepare and revise drawings in accordance with client, company, and industry standards. The Drafter reviews project information for completeness and accuracy, identifies missing or conflicting information, and works with project personnel to resolve questions and incorporate revisions.

The ideal candidate has experience with pipe fabrication drafting, a strong attention to detail, and a working knowledge of drafting practices, pipe materials, fabrication processes, and applicable industry standards such as ASTM, ASME, and PFI. The position requires strong mathematical skills, including geometry and trigonometry, as well as the ability to organize work, meet production requirements, communicate effectively, and maintain accuracy in a deadline-driven environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Review assigned project scope, specifications, and source drawings to understand the requirements for the work.
• Develop shop pipe fabrication spool drawings from client drawings using AutoCAD and Spoolgen.
• Apply established drafting practices and applicable client, company, and industry standards to each drawing.
• Use geometry, trigonometry, and other basic calculations when required to complete assigned work.
• Review drawing information for completeness and accuracy while developing the spool.
• Recognize missing, unclear, or conflicting information and communicate questions to the appropriate personnel.
• Make revisions and corrections accurately based on review comments or updated project information.
• Maintain organized project and drawing information and meet assigned production requirements.
• Work effectively with others, listen to direction, communicate clearly, and complete assignments within required timeframes.

Required Knowledge & Experience:

• Approximately one year of drafting experience in pipe fabrication is preferred.
• High school education or equivalent is preferred.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
• Working knowledge of Spoolgen is helpful but is not required.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Familiarity with ASTM, ASME, and PFI codes and standards.
• General familiarity with different pipe materials and metallurgies.
• General understanding of pipe fabrication practices.
• Basic understanding of welding procedures, non-destructive examination, heat treatment, and paint/coating requirements.
• Strong mathematical ability, including basic geometry and trigonometry.
• Ability to work an extended schedule when project requirements call for it.
