Job Summary:

The Physician Assistant provides and manages direct medical evaluation, diagnosis, procedures, and care for patients in accordance with evidence-based treatment guidelines within a recognized area of practice.



Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment.

  • Prescribes certain pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.

  • Reviews and updates medical records in compliance with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Refers patient to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.

  • Interacts with patients and families to keep them informed and engaged in the decisions and direction of health care.

  • Provides counseling education and resource information on wellness, prevention of illness and health maintenance.

  • Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.

  • Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.

  • Abides by and enforces all PPE standards for clinical staff.

  • Attends, participates, and/or assists in meetings, trainings, community outreach activities, continuing education opportunities, and other activities as required.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.

  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.

  • Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise.

  • Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.

  • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.

  • Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to speak English and Spanish preferred.



Education and Experience:

Required: 

  • Graduate of an AMA accredited school for Physician Assistants.

  • National Certification and AZ State Licensed as Physician Assistant.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification.



Preferred: 

  • X waivered.

  • 1+ years of experience as a Physician Assistant.



Other Requirements:

  • New Hires are required to pass pre-employment background check and drug testing (effective 11/1/2022).

  • Current Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card or must pass fingerprint clearance within 7 days following hire.

Skills Required

  • Graduate of an AMA-accredited school for Physician Assistants
  • National certification as a Physician Assistant
  • Arizona state license as a Physician Assistant
  • Basic Life Support certification
  • Drug Enforcement Administration certification
  • Pass pre-employment background check
  • Pass pre-employment drug testing
