A pharmacist is a licensed individual responsible for all aspects of pharmaceutical care and pharmacy practice. The role of the Pharmacist is to provide drug information, review for interaction, safety and efficacy, as well as clinical consulting services. The pharmacist is also responsible for all compounding, packaging and dispensing of medications. The pharmacist is regulated by all state and federal laws pertaining to the practice of pharmacy. A pharmacist must be compassionate, courteous, and have excellent interpersonal skills. A pharmacist must be an educator and drug information resource.
QualificationsSPECIFIC PHARMACIST DUTIES:
- Expert use and safety of medications dispensed.
- Work alongside physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Supervise pharmacy technicians, interns, and ancillary help with filling, dispensing, labelling and packaging of medication.
- Perform the final check on all medication.
- Manage inventory and profitability. (Invoicing purchasing, labor etc.)
- Protect health information (HIPPA).
- Prevent fraud, waste, and abuse.
- Prepare sterile solutions according to USP 797.
- Prepare Enteral feeding and nutrition.
- Prepare computer generated forms and reports.
- Maintain the legal aspects of pharmacy practice and regulations.
SPECIFIC PHARMACIST CONSULTANT DUTIES:
Perform Nursing home chart reviews by the 15th of each month. Report irregularities and recommend therapy changes to the medical director and the director of nursing, including:
- Drug interaction and safety
- Duplicate or inappropriate therapy
- Medication irregularities
- Excessive use or duration
- Adverse events
- Medication advocacy
- Educate facility staff
- Participate in drug therapy decisions
- Pharmaceutical care
- Monitor for compliance
Skills Required
- Licensed pharmacist
- Expertise in medication use and safety
- Ability to supervise pharmacy technicians, interns, and ancillary staff
- Ability to perform final medication checks
- Knowledge of state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations
- Ability to prepare sterile solutions according to USP 797
- Knowledge of drug interactions, duplicate therapy, adverse events, and medication irregularities
- Ability to conduct nursing home chart reviews and recommend therapy changes
- Ability to educate facility staff and provide drug information
- Knowledge of HIPAA requirements and prevention of fraud, waste, and abuse

Red Rock Pharmacy is a closed-door, long-term-care pharmacy serving organizations such as skilled nursing, assisted living, intermediate care, hospital, and hospice facilities. Founded in downtown Salt Lake City in 2013, it provides compounding and prescription drugs, medication packaging, infusion therapy, vaccinations and immunizations, injectables, and specialty medications. The company has expanded to seven locations across four states under Home Caregivers Partnership LLC.
