Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacist is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care within Unity Health Care’s correctional healthcare setting. This position performs a wide range of duties, including dispensing prescribed medications, providing patient education, serving as a clinical resource to healthcare providers, supervising pharmacy operations and staff, and providing technical and operational support to ensure safe and effective pharmacy services.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and supervise all aspects of pharmacy operations.
- Supervise and provide direction to Pharmacy Technicians.
- Dispense prescribed medications accurately and safely.
- Provide medication education and counseling as appropriate.
- Serve as a pharmaceutical resource to healthcare providers and clinical staff.
- Identify potential misuse or abuse of pharmaceuticals and recommend appropriate corrective or remedial action.
- Assist with the development and preparation of monthly and quarterly pharmacy activity reports.
- Maintain adequate inventory of medications, pharmaceuticals, and other necessary supplies to support safe and efficient operations.
- Ensure compliance with infection control measures, pharmacy procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Develop and provide training to nursing staff regarding medications, pharmaceuticals, and related topics.
- Recommend updates or changes to pharmacy instructions, regulations, policies, and operational guidance as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy required.
- Current licensure as a Pharmacist in the District of Columbia pursuant to applicable D.C. licensing requirements.
- Prior retail or community pharmacy experience required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical pharmacy experience.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medication management, pharmaceutical practices, and patient safety standards.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Ability to work effectively within a correctional healthcare environment.

Skills Required
