As a Personal Trainer for the Blue Springs Parks & Recreation, you will impact the fitness journey for clients as you provide coaching and instruction in 1-on-1 or small-group settings. This part-time position will be for evening hours.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements safe and effective exercise programming based on current industry standards.
  • Instructs participants on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles. 
  • Provides motivation and nutrition information within the scope of practice of a personal trainer.
  • Conducts assessments and consultations with clients; refers clients to appropriate health professionals (physicians, dietitians, physical therapists) when necessary.
  • Builds relationships with participants and answers questions to enhance their understanding of health and fitness.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of customer and facility needs.
  • Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to; ensures proper upkeep, appearance, and function of fitness equipment.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills with the public, supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
  • Maintains records of personal training sales and session logs, to be turned in to the Fitness Supervisor.
  • Maintains personal training certification and necessary continuing education credits to stay abreast of current fitness and nutrition information.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The above duties and responsibilities include those tasks, physical and mental requirements, visual requirements, unique physical surroundings and mental/cognitive abilities required to perform the essential elements of the position.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Special License(s)/Certifications –Acceptable combination of education and work experience. Certified personal trainer (ACSM, NSCA, NASM, ACE) or equivalent. CPR/AED certification required.

Experience –Previous personal training experience in a commercial or community setting is strongly preferred.

Skills –Strong communications skills for interacting with patrons. Knowledge of current fitness trends and practices. Punctuality and organization skills.

Competencies – Ability to make sound decisions and use good judgment; ability to prepare appropriate programs to suit clients’ goals and needs.

Supervisory Responsibility – This position will not supervise other staff, but will work in cooperation with the Fitness Supervisor and other personal trainers.
