About Anemoi Marine Technologies

At Anemoi, we’re on a journey to shake up the maritime industry with cutting-edge Rotor Sail technology. From our headquarters in the UK and production base in China, we’re developing and delivering advanced, automated wind-assisted propulsion systems that help shipowners and operators reduce fuel consumption and emissions… propelling the shipping industry toward a more sustainable, decarbonised future.

Our goal is ambitious yet simple: save 1,000 tonnes of CO2 per day by installing 500 Rotor Sails by 2030. Picture fleets of ships sailing world’s oceans with our Rotor Sail technology, harnessing renewable wind power to get the job done cleaner and more efficiently. We’re making that happen, one ship at a time.

We take ground breaking science and real-world engineering and turn it into products that work operationally at sea. Our diverse and collaborative teams work side by side, and around the globe, driven by a passion for sustainability and a relentless pursuit of technical excellence.

The mission, should you choose to accept, is to protect the maritime environment by harnessing the power of wind!

About the Role

Help shape how wind power is used to reduce fuel consumption and emissions from shipping. As a Performance Engineer at Anemoi, you will use maritime engineering and data analysis to assess and improve rotor sail performance. You will also apply computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and numerical simulation to investigate technical questions that need a more detailed understanding of the flow. This is an opportunity to see your work inform real engineering decisions and demonstrate the technology's impact.

You will use operational data and analytical methods to predict fuel savings, assess measured performance, develop performance assessment plans and answer practical technical questions. Numerical simulations will complement this work, helping you investigate performance and identify opportunities to improve rotor sail design and operation. Working closely with the wider team, you will turn complex results into clear findings that support customer and engineering decisions.

You will help develop the team's performance assessment and simulation methods, checking results and understanding their limitations. The role combines engineering judgement, hands-on analysis, CFD and Python programming, and offers scope to deepen your expertise in wind-assisted propulsion.

What you will do

  • Deliver rotor sail performance assessments and fuel savings predictions using operational data and analytical tools, critically evaluating results and their implications.
  • Develop performance assessment plans and methodologies, defining how performance will be measured, simulated, analysed and evaluated.
  • Investigate performance issues and technical questions through data analysis, supported by numerical simulation where it adds value.
  • Support performance verification by preparing analysis and technical evidence for review with customers and independent third parties.
  • Check the quality of data and results, ensuring analyses are reproducible and their assumptions and limitations are understood.
  • Plan, set up and run CFD studies to investigate rotor sail aerodynamics, interactions with the vessel and opportunities to improve performance.
  • Select suitable geometry, meshes, physical models, boundary conditions and solver settings; assess convergence, mesh sensitivity and other sources of numerical uncertainty.
  • Compare simulation results with measurements, experiments and analytical estimates, explaining discrepancies and refining models where appropriate.
  • Use Python to process data, prepare simulation inputs, analyse results and automate repeatable parts of the workflow.
  • Interpret and communicate technical findings clearly to customers and colleagues.

What we are looking for

Essential

  • At least two years of relevant professional experience in an engineering, analytical or numerical simulation role.
  • A degree in engineering, mathematics, physics or a related discipline.
  • A sound understanding of engineering principles and fluid mechanics, with the ability to apply these to vessel performance and propulsion.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, including practical statistics, interpreting real-world data, accounting for uncertainty and judging whether results are physically reasonable.
  • Practical experience setting up, running and interpreting CFD simulations, including mesh generation, model selection and boundary conditions, and checking results through convergence and sensitivity studies or comparison with physical evidence.
  • Strong Python programming skills for engineering analysis, data processing and simulation workflows.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical findings and prepare well-structured reports.
  • A careful, methodical approach to problem-solving, with the ability to manage priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.

Desirable

  • Experience with CFD software such as STAR-CCM+ (preferred), ANSYS Fluent or OpenFOAM.
  • Knowledge of rotor sails or other wind-assisted propulsion technologies.
  • Experience simulating rotating flows, turbulent flows or aerodynamic interactions between multiple bodies.
  • Experience with numerical optimisation or using simulation results to guide engineering design.
  • Experience using high-performance computing (HPC) systems to run and manage numerical simulations.
  • Familiarity with marine instrumentation, data acquisition or sea trials.

We do not expect one person to arrive with every desirable skill. If the core role appeals to you and your experience is transferable, we encourage you to apply.

 Why join Anemoi?

  • Apply engineering, analytical and simulation skills to technology that can reduce fuel use and emissions from shipping.
  • See your work inform real engineering and customer decisions.
  • Develop your expertise in wind-assisted propulsion while working alongside engineers, analysts and software developers.
  • Help shape the performance assessment and simulation methods used to improve rotor sail performance.

Skills Required

  • At least two years of relevant professional experience in an engineering, analytical, or numerical simulation role
  • Degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, or a related discipline
  • Sound understanding of engineering principles and fluid mechanics applied to vessel performance and propulsion
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, including practical statistics, real-world data interpretation, uncertainty analysis, and physical reasonableness checks
  • Practical experience setting up, running, and interpreting CFD simulations, including mesh generation, model selection, boundary conditions, convergence, and sensitivity studies
  • Strong Python programming skills for engineering analysis, data processing, and simulation workflows
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including technical findings and structured reports
  • Careful, methodical problem-solving approach with the ability to manage priorities and work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience with CFD software such as STAR-CCM+, ANSYS Fluent, or OpenFOAM
